Well.....
Sorry to have to do this because I'm a HUGE Amsoil fan.
I use many of their products & it's the only thing I'll use in my engine. (backed up by sample testing)

Sorry to say, but I tried the Amsoil MT fluid and wasn't happy with it at all. (Sorry Wayne)
The tranny was much more notchy and shifting wasn't as clean as with the Nissan MT fluid.

I ended up draining the Amsoil & put the OE fluid back in and the shifting improved immediately.
The OE fluid for the 2nd gen is a quality synthetic product.
IMO it's not worth changing to anything else.

No worries, man, I should have posted your feedback myself.

On my S2000, I tried the "original" Honda MTF, along with AMSOIL and GM Snycromesh Friction Modified. I ended up preferring a new formulated Honda MTF.

Sounds like I will have a similar experience with the tranny in the G35. My wife is the primary driver of the G35 which has 12.5k miles on it, but I've been driving it a lot the last 2 months or so. I just don't like the 1-2 shift and another sequence that escapes me right now.

How long do you find the OE fluid to be good for?

IDK yet....
I changed at 20K km (12.4K miles),
but that was just to get fresh fluid in after everything was well broken in.
The fluid still felt fine at that point.

Any updates to current fluids available or preferred? I just had my 60K service including MT drain. Tranny noises and feel seem to be better but this is butt dyno only. Temps here in CA have been warm lately, so can't vouch for cold weather performance.

I prefer OEM. I switched to Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 at 25k, and then switched back to OEM at 55k. Granted it's only been a month since I've been back on OEM, but both my wife and I never liked the Amsoil in this car and prefer the OEM.

i have not changed mine yet. still running OEM fluid. i did check it at about 45K miles. it looked and felt clean but was about 1/2 quart low. i topped it off and the rough shift from 1st to 2nd went away. the 2nd to 6th shift can still be a little notchy but i assume that is from the synchros not meshing smoothy to the overdrive gear and it isn't a combo i do all that much anyway unless i'm going for super high mileage. speaking of which, i just got 29 mpg on a 200 mile trip. pretty pumped about that!

planning to change out the MT fluid at the 60k service and replace with OEM nissan fluid as recommended in the owner's manual.

Go with Nissan MTF or Redline MT85. Currently running MT85 and feels comparable to the OEM Nissan fluid. I replaced it during the winter and it cleared up cold weather notchiness, but I think that would happen after replacing old fluid anyway.
