Overview of Stillen Dual Exhaust (SDE)
Overview of Stillen Dual Exhaust (SDE)
Hey fellas Just wanted to share my experience/tips with those who are interested in the stillen exhaust for our g35's.
Its been 2 weeks since i installed the SDE. and decided to write this up to aide those in need
PREP: MAKE SURE YOUR CAR/STOCK EXHAUST HAS TIME TO COOL OFF BEFORE DOING ANY WORK.
Experience / Tips
Installing the exhuast was fairly simple. 2 1/2 hours total time with use of jack/ 2 jackstands/hand tools. I decided to install it myself while getting alittle more intimate with my car. also saves 2-3 hundred bucks for install. The squeeze under the car was tight be prepared to get down and dirty.
Basically the SDE follows the same piping of the oem exhuast, the only minor setback was the removal of the stock exhaust. My g has around 15 thousand miles on it, so the nuts/bolts underneath the car were pretty rusted/gunked up. Blast all nuts/bolts with rust remover/other lubricant. this should take awhile depending on your cars condition. NOTE: make sure you wear goggles while under your car. rust flakes and lubricant will fall on your face/eyes.
After stock system is removed assemble the SDE WITHOUT tighting any of the brackets to make sure your installing the system upright. after a test fit break down the system and begin with the Ypipe and work your way back to the dual mufflers.
You will also need to buy gasket sealent-- mine was red & smells like hot sauce.
Follow the included instructions. Pictures arent the best. (little arrows showing you where the parts are) and you should be fine.
NEVER TRUST A JACK TO DO A JACKSTANDS JOB
Impressions:
Looks. WOW. totally puts the stock exhuast in the sh!tter. stainless steel tips and muflers. SDE sits like 2-3 inches lower than the stock. IMO looks amazing.
Sound. Your going to turn some heads. Initial startup sounds so much more aggressive than stock. Sound note is deep toned and aggresively tuned. Only thing is.. sound is constant even with the littlest amout of input on the throttle but i love it. Cant really hear the exhaust on the highway unless you....
Overall i was very happy with the install/ SDE system itself. Love the sound. Looks great. 9 out of 10.. just because nothing is perfect.

Using a jack and a jackstands isnt the easiest way but you dont have to pay for labor
You dont need to have the car in the air... as long as you can slide under it your golden. When you setup the jack stands, use the jack to stablize( a third jackstand pretty much)
The metal on the frame will show signs of damage. but what car isnt like that
Much better to install with a helping hand from a friend.
