Custom H-Pipe with BERK HFC's (don't Try)

Hi! All Fella G's

Pls.noted that i only done this for mine own experiment and just wanna share
No negative to anyone.

finally after heard alot of G35er has change to H-Pipe so i thought i would give it a try so i went to muffler shop and cost me $70 for all the job

- Cut the Y-Pipe
- Cut the resonator
- Weld 2.25" pipe to each side of Y-Pipe and Resonator

Wow!! Car ran alot faster than before but the sound is totally horrible
Too Da*n loud and alittle raspy!!! Sh**t . I'd said my previouse installed
with BERK HFC's and Stock would be the best sound i ever heard.

Driving test
- Run faster
- More flow
- No pressure feeling on Gas Paddle ( i don't like this feeling)
with just HFC's and Stock Exhaust is the best.Alot pressure on Gas Paddle
make me wanna step on it more and more.
- Alot of airflow out from 2 muffler almost like you turn the fan onto #2

I'm not sure should i get Magnagflow muffler (2 inlet/2 outlet) for resonator
in order to have more quiet to cabin and pressure keep.:D

i was thinking to put back the stock Y-Pipe tomorrow or any betterway.
Any recommend would be appreciate.:icon38:

Hey, did you not see this thread? https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...ust-video.html

Good exhaust info there :D

I've ordered my X chamber muffler right now. I'll report my findings once it's installed.

But I think sredish's experiments are dead on, the resonators make the biggest difference in sound in these cars...

My setup is identical to his and his is much more livable. I may add additional resonators with the x chamber muffler too, but we'll see how it goes.

One nice thing is that the car "coasts" much farther and easier with the higher flowing exhaust.

Yeh, i read that too but i thought the rear resonator will handle enough.
I might ending get another magnaflow 2inlet/2outlet and connect it.
Sredish where are you? need Help!! me~~De~~

so, as of right now, your bone stock exhaust except you removed the y-section and connected it as a dual with h-pipe (stock resonators/stock mufflers) then added the Berks? I would've figured the stock resonators would be enough to quiet the Berks.

not sure how the berks would sound on my setup. i will say an x-pipe section is more efficient and generally a tad quieter than an h-pipe section. However, I would've believed the stock resonators are quieter than the magnaflow x piped resonator I used.

here's the resonator I used: http://www.planetmagnaflow.com/shop/...14385-330.html

bad part is, your kind of in experimental territory. thats where i went as well and was lucky enough to have a good osunding system but those HFCs change it all around, which is why I've been so reluctant to try em. good to hear you gained performance with them tho.

Sad to say, but you may be better off with the stock cats. Sounds like things are too loud for you and opening up the cat-back may be too much for you if you keep the HFC's.

I have one of the quietest turbo-back exhausts for my WRX--simply swapping out cat for test pipe changed all that big time.

I think it would be easy to find takers for your HFC's too.

Thanks to all G35er

sredish and mishmosh,

you both were right at some part but i'm 10000% sure that HFC's will totally change everyway of your mods around. All yours set up that you have done will totally change however base on your resonator( i guess )
Mine set up HFC' with all stock cat, resonator, muffler was sound great and right! for me.After transform Stock Y-Pipe to H-Pipe by custom made. It's totally loud and kindda raspy alittle.i totally not agreed with this mods step so went back to the muffler shop&paid $70 to put back the stock Y-Pipe
it's all came back. I:BOUNCE: i will stick that way.As it's already had great deep tone from HFC's alone.
Moreover after put back everything i drove around to see if everything alright but like 15mn after. Check engine indicator light came up and that's freak me out so i reset ECU by disconnect the battery. It's all gone.hopefully nothing came up again.
Any recommend on the check engine light matter would be great! Thx guy

I'm ok with HFC's.I'd said it's perfect set up for mine G.There is no way that i will let it go.

Hmm, I'm surprised there's that much increase in noise and rasp just by eliminating the Y-pipe... 90* equalization of the H-pipe section can sometimes cause turbulence resulting in some drone and noise. The x-pipe his a much freer input into the system and usually eliminates this. I also wonder if your H-pipe section (remembering back from pictures I think) was too close to the HFCs and if it was moved back farther, maybe even behind the resonators, it'd make a lot of difference. Just some thoughts.

Great Idea,genious..I have never thought to have H-Pipe behide resonator.I'm afraid to change now since i'm now ok with the sound i have from BERK with stock pipe.
Test Drive all day..Love it the way it is now.I will wait for all my new stuff
coming next week.I will start doing Glossy black grill tomorrow.Got it from Ebay.thanks alot mann.

True duals with no equalizing tube would probably perform better than that stock y pipe that's on there.

it would be interesting to eliminate the y-pipe putting it back a true dual setup like before but with no h pipe section and see how it sounds... then... if it sounds good/similar to now, experiment with an equalizer tube farther down the system, maybe an x section even.

just some thoughts I had.

Hey! Sredish,hope all`well w/ya..

I just came back to read yur post on mine thread since i've got Magnaflow sitting here for 1.5 month. I have done chaning the OEM Muffler to Magnaflow and now trying to eliminate Y-Pipe but since i have HFC alrady so it's hard for me to decide which location should i install it.
Should it be similar to FI set up?.....
Mine OEM resonator was enough protect the noise from Berk.

i think more people should look into the borla exhaust. it has extra resonators in the piping in addition to the muffler at the end. some youtube videos sound pretty good, not too loud at all, plus its an H pipe and the gains are tremendous on a g37, and i heard theyre similar on our car. i cant find a video with the borla exhaust AND hfc, but i don't expect it to be too loud at all considering their reputation. plus they have a million mile warranty...someone try this exhaust!

Csquared Feb 22, 2009 04:49 PM

yes but it's like 1.7k or something like that right?

earth0 Feb 22, 2009 05:04 PM

Yeh,I've also look into Borla setup and look similar to our set up except the Magnaflow H-Pipe.I personaly like Borla but the pricey!!!
