KulG35 and I actually just went and dyno'd our cars on Saturday, so we will both be posting results soon.

Here's a brief rundown of our findings... I saw a peak gain of about 6 HP at around 6200 RPM's, however, my peak HP figures that came around 7000 RPM's were pretty much exactly the same with both intakes (294.3 Vs. 294.1). I also saw a pretty decent torgue increase almost across the entire RPM range with the largest increase of 4 - 5 lb-ft coming at about 6200 RPM's.

KulG35 got much better results, but he got did his baseline a different day, so he was able to switch out intakes last weekend and give his ECU some time to adjust. I don't have his exact dyno figures in front of me, but I believe he gained 6 - 7 Peak HP (running just over 300 HP). He also had a huge torque gain from the stock intake, so his dyno charts look very nice.

My results were not as good as his, but I actually switched intakes there on Saturday, so I didn't give the ECU a chance to readjust to the new intake, so I was actually running a 1/2 point richer with the new intake, which was probably hurting performace. I may try to go back in a couple of weeks and do a few more pulls once my ECU has a chance to readjust.

Plese note that all these runs were done on the same DynaPack dyno, so they can't be compared to anything done on a DynoJet. From my experience, the DynaPack runs about 6% - 7% higher than a DynoJet. To give you an idea of the difference, I used to have an E36 M3 and it ran 271 HP on a DynoJet and 290 HP on a DynaPack with the exact same mods, so about 6.6 - 6.7% higher on the DynaPack. I'm just happy that my G puts out more HP stock than my M3 did with several thousand worth of mods.

Nice write up, but aren't we much heavier than the M3? Lol.

very nice review. The K&N intake appears to be the most consistent in terms of gains.

Yeah, no doubt. My E36 M3 weighed in right around 3200 lbs, so it was a good 300 lbs lighter than the G. Keep in mind, though, that the E46 M3 weights close to 3500 lbs, so that is right about where we are at with our cars.

Of coursee, my '91 Porsche S2 only weighs aproximately 3000 lbs. Seems cars just keep getting heavier and heavier.

cars are getting heavier and heavier, i think it's because of safety standards, and the public demand for bigger cars, like the 3 series is the same size as the old 5 series etc. I bet our cars can take a hit better than the old cars too.

Thanks for the good words, Q8y. I still plan on posting a better review soon.

The K&N definitely seems to have the best compromise between midrange powrer and torque gains without any loss of peak HP. The power increases on the K&N seem to be the most usable of any intake. Overall I am very happy with the performance and can definitely feel the extra midrange punch when driving around town.

i just had a reflash done by tadashi. on the way there, i had 2 1/4" cat back exhausts put on by mesa muffler in Costa Mesa, Ca.. i lost low end power and gained midrange and upper range power.
regarding intakes, tadashi said they help produce more power in the upper range only.
On his dyno i picked up 40 hp on his dyno using the before-tune and after-tune. the only intake change i have is the use of K@N filters that fit in the stock filter boxes. i produced 242hp at 6800rpm before his tune and 282hp at 6600rpm through 6900rpm. Torque went from 203 at 5200rpm pre-tune to 230 at 4800rpm through 5500rpm then a gradual drop off.

.... ..... still wish he had 6MT software. I'm sure he hasn't seen the K&N then... its low to mid and not much upper range.

Good stuff, Jim... and great results! A technosquare reflash is definitely in my future, once I get some high flow cats and maybe headers installed.

Here are some new pics of the engine bay with the K&N intake and BB grounding wires installed.

My thanks to KulG35 for helping me install the K&N intake in Church's parking lot on Saturday!

I'm pretty interested in this but I have a few questions.

How much louder does this make the car?
Are they CARB legal?
Does it void any of the factory warranty?
I only need one of these at $359, not one for each side correct?
Most importantly is the group buy price still valid? I saw the link still had it but I wasn't sure if it was still valid.

Thanks
Ed

You only need one per car.
As far as I'm aware, the group buy is still valid, I ordered mine on the 18th.

Jason said that he would be holding the Group Buy open on this for a little bit longer, so the link should still work... Here's the link again:

http://www.jaycorptech.com/showprodu...?productid=204

Or you can send $369.98 ($359 + $10.98 shipping) via PayPal to the following:

sales@jaycorptech.com

The intake does make the intake sounds a little bit louder (but what a sweet sound it is!), but only when you are on the throttle... while cruising the car is just as quiet as stock.

I believe that it is CARB legal, but you may want to check with K&N just to be sure.

Oh, and you only need one of these kits... it comes with both intakes and heat shields, along with all the installation hardware you will need to install it.

Good luck... You will love this intake!
