Hi pple . .

this is ma first thread . . . n i'm lookin forward to built a good knowledge in terms of all issues related to the G35

umm . . actually i've got ma G35 sedan 2008 recentley n i'm plannin to modify it a lil . .

an exhaust system is the first thing i wud like to go for . .
in fact , i've been browsin n what i found is different types n brands of exhausts like :

stillen, Borla, FI, Magnaflow and Tanabe medallion . .

i'm not really sure which one to go for
in fact i'm lookin for more power and good performance , no matter how loud the sound is ( well . . a loud sound is not ma cup of tea anyway ) !

One more thing . . what is exactly the X-pipe ? cat-back ?
what are all these things . . i mean am i getting all these things included when i purchase my exhaust ? or what ? plz excuse my stupid question , i'm kindda new for such things

i do apologize for my bad english too ( it's not my mother of tongue . . u kno )

Regards ,,,
Ahmed .

An X-pipe is the shape of the pipes found after the cats on an exhaust.
There are also Y-pipes, H-pipes, and straight pipes.

A catback exhaust is an exhaust that changes all the piping from the cats (catalytic converters) all the way back to the tips.
An axleback only changes the little bit of piping behind the rear axle, mufflers and tips

^+1, all of that was a good explaination. Also, FI is a catback and more of a deeper tone without any drone, Stillen has some drone I've heard and is also a catback and Tannabe is an axel back system which is quieter than the first two. Magnaflow doesn't make an exhaust for out cars yet, they say that it's in development. I have a FI exhaust and love it, not to quiet and not too loud.

If you want power i'm guessing the FI would give you the most, although I did hear that High flow cats give the most gains right?

Exhaust systems are completely subjective and personal in taste. A sound that one person may like may sound terrible to the next.

Buy the one that sounds the best to you. They all make about the same power (except an axle back which makes a bit less), so it comes down to sound, price, and looks.

If you're not looking for a louder sound I wouldn't recommend the Stillen (or FI for that matter) because they both increase the sound quite a bit

- Go w/ Tanabe if want something mild.
- If you want loud, go with STILLEN.
- FI is right in b/w those 2. (My choice)

i have the Stillen cat-back and i love it. noticeable power increase in the mid range of the powerband. Although it is a bit loud, and there is slight drone when you accelerate slowly or drive at a constant speed. However the drone will fade a bit over time and is not bad at all. It's actually nice since it reminds me that i have an aftermarket exhaust

BTW, where are you located?

i have the tanabe medallion touring, i love it. i did not buy it for the performance gain, i really bought it for looks. The tanabe is ever so slightly louder than stock on idle and maybe a bit more under heavy load. but if ur into performance i would not get them. FI would be the way to go. hope this helps

There are + and - to most systems.....
The best bet is to see them first hand.
..maybe a local meet?
