Weird throttle response

Hi everyone. My first posting here. I'm considering purchasing a low mileage 07 G35 sedan with auto. Test drove one a couple days ago and was impressed with the overall package of power and handling. One thing did concern me and I would like to ask if this is typical of the 07 automatic trans. While slowly accelerating up to around 45, I let off the accelerator for a moment and then gassed it lightly. The transmission seemed to disengage and the engine rev'ed up freely, and after a fraction of a second, reengaged the gear (4th I think). Is this "normal" for Infiniti auto trans? Thanks in advance.

btw, very informative forum.

TBH i have an auto and i'm not sure if I ever noticed that. however i know that our TC's like to lock up hard when shifting (which is a good thing). I'd say Unless the TC engagement/disengagement is very noticeable or bothering then i'd assume it's normal.

hope others can chime in.

not sure as i dont have auto and im sure someone will be here with a definite answer, but my guess would be the downshift rev-match system.

Under the right circumstances you can fool the tranny
& it sounds like that's what you did with the way you lifted then reapplied throttle.

welcome to the forum. i would say this is normal, i have a 5AT, and it is setup to be relatively aggresive/sensitive in shifting up/down. more so when you are in DS mode. i cant recall exactly when but i think i have experienced what you have stated. at lower speeds, the tranny may disengage and then re-engage making it seem jerky/harsh. i think the '07 model had a TSB out for that and it was applied on the '08 model(which i have). someone needs to verify this of course, hope this helps

I have an 08 with the 5AT - and yes, what you are experiencing is normal. I'm not the biggest fan of the programming of this tranny...as it does on occasion do what you described.

It will also be heightened when in DS mode. I don't use DS much as i feel it does not shift and hold revs correctly for my style of driving. Completely subjective...and I also have not driven in DS mode long enought for it to adapt to my driving....so...

But overall it's quite an amazing car and value.

So...IMO...don't worry about it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I finally located a thread with what seems like my exact observation - posted by Bambeezer almost 11 months ago:

The most annoying is when I get off the gas and back on. The thing revs a lot without down shifting.

I guess this is a quirk of the 5AT. Car is still awesome. I forgot how much fun driving could be.

Yes, the trany thinks you want to GO.

so its starts to drop a gear or 2.

but you let off the gas before the dropped gear engages so the trany resumes its previous gear.

do the same thing only keep ur foot in it a little longer and it will drop and GO.

The transmission is rev matching and is MUCH more obvious in DS mode.
