It actually does, more than one 'import' is 'Made in the U.S.A.' (note not USA).

An import is an import is an import, it doesnt matter where its made. My Toyota Seinna was made in Indiana but guess what... ITS STILL AN IMPORT

How so if it is not imported? My Chrysler was made in Canada and 'imported' to the U.S. My Jeep was made in Mexico and 'imported' into the U.S. The country of origin is what defines it (usually based on final assembly). I worked at a power plant in Washington State that is owned by Canadians located in Calgary. Of course in this case as is often the case the plant officially is owned and operated by a U.S. company that is wholly owned by the parent company abroad. You'll find the same true of many other companies as well. Toshiba took advantage with its laptops of having the screens installed in the U.S. and selling them as U.S. made laptops.

Many so called U.S. cars have been simply rebranded 'foreign' cars.

Regardless I still want mine to sound like a 68 Charger instead of the same so called 'ricer' (actually sort of an offensive term in my mind for Asian folks) sound that many denounce and still install in their 'G's relabling it in the process as something totally different. Many sound like a Japanese two cycle motorcycle in comparison to an Indian.

Because the money still goes to the corporate headquarters, and thats NOT here. For Toyota (who builds more vehicles in the states then GM) every penny goes back to... can you guess where? Toyota City, Japan

Just in case you were wondering, BMW's corporate headquarters is in Munich, Germany. So that's who gets your money when you buy one of those US built BMW's

Yes but brand identity is what it is. BMW's are German, Toyota's, Nissan's, & Honduh's are Asian and Ford, GM, & Chrysler are American.

Not so easy as that. GM is international and the money is essentially shared. While GM of the U.S. was failing it wasn't doing so bad in many if not most places it was doing business, not every drop flows back to its origins. Chrysler was under MB so where did that money flow to (hint some of it to France). The origins of the 300m is France. Jaguar was under Ford and the money now flows to India?

Rolls and Bentley went to Germany first as a 'peoples car' and then BMW. The origins of at least one Nissan is France although it is built in Mexico. So is it a French car and therefore European, a Mexican car since it is built in Mexico, or an Asian car simply because it has a Nissan nameplate stamped on it? If we are speaking of characteristics I would penned it as French. Are some Altimas sold in California actually Toyotas since they share a good deal of running parts? Are the Chevies built in China Chinese cars or American?

Bingo, Nissan would get the money (in Japan) and distribute it as needed.

Actually Nissan like nearly everyone else has a U.S. incorporated presence. So the money flows to that corporation first, then maybe on to the rest of the world just like GM does.

So is the Bentley a British car? Is an all American made Toyota an asian car? Is a Chinese made Chevy a Chinese car? Is a 1994 Honda Passport even a Honda (it is a Japanese vehicle)? The country of incorporation where a vehicle is manufactured is for nearly all purposes the country of origin. A Chinese Chevy is made by Chinese labor using a large if not a majority of Chinese sourced parts and is mostly sold in China. The money from those sales flow to a Chinese company. So what part of that car other than its design is not Chinese? The same goes for my Chrysler which was initially designed in France, the design sent to Canada, where it became a Chrysler which was suppose to be a Dodge which was originally designed as a fwd or a rwd and was then imported into the U.S. as a U.S. model. This is the way business works in today's world.

So tell me this, if Nissan USA goes belly up does that mean Nissan goes away? NO! If Nissan Japan (corporate headquarters) goes belly up does it go away OR shutdown Nissan USA? It very well could. What does that tell you about "business in today's world"?

This is the way business works in today's world.
Thats just a dumb comment because its not right.

You may want to rethink this in light of GM. If GM U.S.A. was to go belly up does G.M. go away? No it most likely would not since it is surviving just fine in other places without a government infusion of cash, that is today's world.

Possibly that is where it ends up or maybe not. It could well have gone right back into the U.S. presence to increase that presence. Some of it went to workers in the U.S. rather than those of a foreign car manufacturer, some went to stock holders and so on.

Some cars are even built purely by license just like airplanes have been built. In fact in those cases new planes are churned out long after the original company has ceased production. That is the world of today.
