Factory transmission oil cooler
Factory transmission oil cooler
I took off the bumper a couple days ago to clean the filters on my CAI and thought I'd snap some pics of the factory trans cooler on the GCC spec G's. It's pretty good in size for a factory cooler. I still have no clue whether it routes into the radiator or straight from/to the trans. I have to go under and see where the lines go. Anyhow, here are the pics -

Not sayin' the above isn't true, but ITB00-042a TSB (infiniti A/T transmission oil cooler cleaning) is listed on infinitihelp.com as applicable to all models with A/T

No, the US Spec doesn't have a trans. cooler, and they didn't have steering oil cooler too (at least with the older models).
He's not going to change it, but i'll change mine to Setrab Series 6 (13" X 5.75" X 2" - 19 Row) trans. cooler, which should arrive with my GTM VB upgrade, and those lines looks very useful after i took a clear look at them, they'll save me a lot of trouble when i install my cooler, i'll only need short hose and i'm done, i was thinking that i'm going to change the whole oil lines.

and HEY!!! how's your uprev going? I can't even remember what the outcome was in the end? any added power?
Also is there such a thing as engine oil cooler? My cousin keeps on going on about it and I've got no clue what he's on about, I think he means trans cooler.

^ Don't know about an engine oil cooler... but it is being cooled, kind of, by cooling the engine itself through the radiator.
Btw, US-spec here, i have the cooler on the left (passenger side) but not the right.

yes there is and i'd recommend one. GTM makes an HD oil cooler for $350. comes with everything you need. They also make a Race oil cooler which is like $500 I think. That one is HUGE though.
Interestingly, IIRC, sometime back we had a similar discussion about that cooler on the left and some said it was either an oil or tranny cooler. It is a PS cooler then, right?
wait who's left are we talking about?
The one on the passenger side is the P/S cooler which everyone has.
The one on the driver's side (larger) is the transmission oil cooler which only GCC spec cars have.
EDIT: The previous discussion was actually about the trans oil cooler. I wasn't sure whether it was for the trans or engine.

So by HD cooler you mean engine oil cooler? or trans cooler?
it's made for the engine oil, but you can buy the same setrab core and hoses and fittings to cool the trans oil. We already have a nicely sized trans cooler so I don't see why you should upgrade the trans cooler (unless you're planning on going FI with over 450whp or so)
HD is a short form for "Heady Duty", so you can use HD cooler for any fluid you want.
It seems you've never drove a Nissan before, old generation Nissan/Infiniti had a very terrible transmission response (at least in Kuwait), due to out hell like summer, the car would take full seconds between shifting between gears, so if you were trapped between 2 cars and want to floor it and squeeze your self between them for an escape, just forget it, because your gear just wont shift or engage due extremly hot transmission oil, not to mention transmission failures, Nissan had the most transmission failures here in Kuwait.
Anyways when the 350z and G35 were 1st introduced here in Kuwait in 2004/5 the transmission got a litte better since they used 5AT, but the customers kept reporting bad shifting and slow tranmission response in summer (in Kuwait and GCC area), so the main Middle East branch asked Nissan/Infiniti that all new modle cars to be equiped with a transmission coolers, that's why we always get our cars after a long time when they got released, almost 6 months or 1 year late sometimes.
Those info from a trusted source within Nissan dealer in Kuwait, and for your info the G35 of 2007 doesn't have the transmission oil cooler like the 2008+.
Adding a cheap flex-a-lite cooler for our additional cooler is a great and cheap addition, but in my case with the VB upgrade i need more oil capacity and added cooling, so our cooler is good, but not as good as it should be, even the BMW and Audi upgrade their transmission oil coolers to achieve better performance, even though they have the best transmission engineering in the world.
