AT question

I have a 6 MT.

Someone told me the 5AT in the G35 and 6AT in the G37 in the sport model, when in manual mode the AT's won't automatically shift at Redline, they will hold the revs like an AMG auto tranny does.

I didn't think that was the case.

Is it ?

thanks

The 5at will not auto shift at redline, it will bounce off the limiter. Not sure about the 6at or was it 7at?

Agreed. The 5AT trans will bounce to no end until you upshift. I would assume the 7AT would do the same since it's practically the same unit with just revised/added gears.

There is no 6AT, just 6MT.

I have a 6mt sedan at the moment.
Maybe I'll trade her in for a 7AT G37S in a few years, as I know my wife hates not being able to drive my car that often. ( hates the MT )

out of curiousity, do you know how the new G37S with AT fares against the MT in terms of acceleration out of the hole ?

Launch Control ? ;-)

Its about par, not much difference at all, i believe the 7at G37 Sedan gives a flat 5.0s 0-60.

If she likes the AT you should be fine, it all up to preference IMO i would never buy an AT again which has nothing to do with performance just the feel and fun i have with the MT.

I know what you mean, all my cars have been MT.
3 Audi's, 2 VWs, 3 BMWs.......

But with LA traffic, my 37 year old knees and my wife wanting to drive something other than our Honda Odyssey ( 3 kids under 3.5) I may give the AT a try next time around for kicks..... at least a test drive
