It seems like $300 or so is a lot to pay for no complaints. I've got no complaints with the stock system and it cost me nothing extra.

Seriously, what is it about the system that you like personally? I think they look cool, but not cool enough to pay for. Its sounds like they sound cool too, which might be worth something. I still haven't heard anything convincing about performance other than a general feeling.

And still, no one knows what the difference between Cold Air vs Short Ram?

I hope this doesn't turn into a thread about aftermarket intakes vs stock. To each his own. I personally love the Stillen Gen3. Even if the gains are only at the very top of the rpm range, I just love the sound. As a manual driver, it helps me know what the engine is doing by hearing it. Unlike short rams, the sound is not cacophonous...it is smooth and refined (unless you really get on it)--very fitting for this car--and does not intrude into the cockpit.

I'm just trying to figure out why I might want these things. I've done the bolt on madness with trucks (many years ago) and I'm trying to resist spending a bunch of money on this car. So I'm trying to figure out which things are worth it and which aren't.

Several people have said they like the intake systems they've purchased. I'm trying to figure out what it is they like. In one of the links above, sound is mentioned. Looks have been mentioned. Performance has been hard to prove.

So it seems to me that they look cool and sound cool but that there really isn't much of a performance benefit.

If the looks and sound are worth it to someone then that's great. If they can feel 8 hp at 7000 rpm then that's good too. But for someone who is trying to take a practical approach and considering bang for the buck, I think I'm going to have to pass based on what I've read here so far.

Thanks for the advice guys.

George

It took 35+ words to tell me to do a search. I would think that if the system was that good you could have explained why in less than 20.

Anyway, I'm not denying that it makes you happy.

i can not explain it in 20 words which is why i used 35 words to tell you what to do next. nice to see that someone still has the time to count words.... i would definitely explain everything to you if i were to get a profit from you buying some intakes It amazes me how ppl get touchy when they are told to search for something that has already been discussed rather than have ppl reiterate it for them all over again.

Pop Quiz!
How many words did i use?? lol, forum mini-war over.

to each is own. personally I had the stock intakes with HKS drop in filter and now have R2C intake for about 6 months. The sound is incomparable, and if there is a lost of TQ I have not noticed it.

If performance is what your after, most mods on a normally aspirated car can be argued as not worth the $$$. That includes intake and exhaust.

1) I didn't get touchy. Just making an observation.
2) I'm amazed when people spend their time telling others to do a search when all they had to do is to reply with an answer.....or not reply at all.
3) You don't know whether I did a search or not.
4) Searches don't often give you the info you're looking for.
5) I value the replies, including yours, that I've gotten here so far and that I would not have gotten if I'd done a search.

And don't worry, this isn't a war.......its just a battle. Just kidding. I appreciate all the replies, they've all been a big help.

As I'm learning about the available mods for the G35 it looks like better tires is one of, if not the, best investments for improved performance. I've got Goodyear RS-A's on mine and I bet almost anything will be better. Can't wait until they wear out.

I'm with Daffy Duck
I didn't notice too much in terms of loses and I also didn't notice too much in terms of gains, but the car does seem to get through the higher RPMs quicker and the noise.... I just love the noise

I could get into a throaty roar. Might make it worth it.

I remember in the old carb days when all you had to do was turn the air cleaner lid over to get a cool sound........I guess I'm old.

I once put a Weber 2 barrel on my Nissan 4x4. It had a big K&N filter on top. It made a huge performance difference in that little 4 cylinder and it sounded so good......for a pretty anemic 4 cylinder anyway.
