It's all relative. If you can aford to play around experimenting with bolt ons that is one thing, but if money is tight non-of this stuff is necessary.

I agree that the intake is a waste of money if you are looking for purely performance gains, but I argue that exhausts are a waste of money.
My car had immediate change for the better once the FI system was on.

I agree completely. I actually gained more HP from my K&N intake then I did from my exhaust (sans the HFC's), and the exhaust ended up costing 3 times as much.

I've actually had two different aftermarket intakes and currently have the Takeda in the car now. When I installed the K&N system I did a before an after dyno the same day and ended up with 4 - 6 HP gain throughout the midrange and a max gain of 7 HP and 9 Ft-Lb of Torque. I've posted several threads on here with driving impressions an dyno charts, just do a quick search if your interested.

The advantages of a CAI (Ingen, Stillen 3, etc) over a short ram (like the K&N & Takeda) is that they actually pull cool air from outside the engine bay. You will more than likely get higher peak gains with a CAI, but your gains in the midrange will be less than a short ram intake due to the long tube design. The short tube intakes tend to give you more mid range power but can suck hot air which will sacrifice peak power. I actually built custom cold air boxes for my intake to help remedy this.

Of course, as has been mentioned here, I feel that the biggest advantage of an aftermarket intake (either CAI or Short Ram) on our cars is the beautiful soundtrack it makes at WOT. I've fallen in love with the new engine sound with the aftermarket intake and could never go back to my stock intake... even my wife loves the sound!

I did install stillen gen 1, lot of sound (yes!) not much power.
Put stock boxes back with K&N dropin filters, better than oem.
Put stock boxes with HKS dropin filters, not much different.
Iám in the middle of buying cobb maf hose to test.

Which short ram is better than stock boxes?
K&N, Stillen Gen2 or R2C?

Current mods: K&N dropins, BB ground kit, FI HFCs,custom exhaust, BullyDog.
277 whp, 244 lb/ft
