Oil Cooler for going forced induction

For those of you who have gone the FI route for you HR engine or have experience in this area, do you feel it is necessary or recommended to have an engine oil cooler? I already have a tranny cooler and VB upgrade since I am AT. I plan to supercharge my Sedan in the near future, but I'm not sure if I should get an engine oil cooler as well. This is my daily driver, and I plan to keep it as reliable possible. Thanks in advance for your input.

Anything you can do to keep temperatures down is beneficial for longevity and reliability.
It is not necessary, but definitely will not hurt. I do not have one on my SC set-up

Thanks for the suggestion, and it looks like you are putting good power down!

A 19-row plate-style cooler seem sto be the most popular.

I really like Derale coolers. They have much better selection than Earl's and they are less expensive.

^ they are all probably made in the same factory in China. I have 3 Derale coolers and the quality is excellent.

I wouldnt bother with the fans unless you are doing some REALLY hard driving.

Daily driving will not be a problem. However if you plan to drive hard or have long highway commutes in 100deg + weather, you WILL need an oil cooler.

I did a trip from Southern CA to Las Vegas without an OC and my oil temp peaked at about 270deg. Luckily, I didn't get into limp mode though.

I'll have a 34 row Setrab installed before my next trip over there. It's only a little bit more than a 19 or 25 row.

The problem with a 34-row is finding a good place to fit it.

Thanks everyone,

So far my Setrab oil cooler is keeping the temps at bay on my supercharged engine. I definitely recommend an oil cooler to anyone going FI. My engine temps can easily get up to 215F when running my car car hard. I'll be posting a review of my experience with the Stage One GTM Supercharger soon.

215F oil or coolant? Have you noticed an increase in coolant temps? Especially with the intercooler covering up some of the airflow to the radiator.

215 F coolant temps. I have noticed a slight increase in coolant temps since the supercharger was installed. What kind of coolant temps are you seeing?

I haven't installed my SC yet. Highest coolant temp I've seen was 227F/108c and that was in 55+c/130+F ambient temp driving normally without even going over 3000rpm
(I know it was OVER 55c because the ambient temp gauge stops reading over 55c and all you get is "---" on the screen lol).

I may have a stuck thermostat though, because right now in 10~15c ambient temp and driving 75mph or faster, the coolant temp will drop to 170~160F.

Wow, those are some high temps you have to deal with. When do you plan on installing your supercharger?
