Amsoil Severe Gear

I was just curious is anyone with RWD and VLSD has experienced any chatter from the diff using only Amsoil severe gear and not adding any slip lock diff additive? This spring I'm putting in Redline MT-90 in the gearbox and Amsoil SG in the diff and just wanted to know if anyone had any issues. Thanks in advance.

No personal experience here, but some research showed that some people claim that our VLSD is sealed and any additives are unnecessary and wont affect anything for worse or better and the VLSD will die out on its normal time regardless of the fluid additives. But it would be better to confirm this here since i have never really seen teh inside of our differential but the claim seems right to me considering we hav Viscous LSD instead of the clutch type which would require the additives for sure.

As for redline, please do some research, from what iv read in my little research Redline causes shifting (grinding/clunking) issues at least with Previous Gen MTs and once the few folks switched back to OEM fluid or a couple to Amsoil they were fine.

Obviously there are those who had no issues with Redline as well, so do som research on your IMO and then make your decision and keep us posted with your results.(specifically me, since i have to change out my cars fluids soon )

not sure about Amsoil but, I just drained and filled the diff in my 07 with Royal Purple Max Gear 75w90. No additive necessary, and no probs for around 500 miles.

Yeah I just had RP put in my rear diff and Manual transmission GB. Dealer claimed that's the part# for Nissan fluid. I think they're BSing and just stock the expensive stuff so they can sell it, either way I needed my oil changed anyway.

Still no issues? Do you put the Royal Purple Max-Gear 75w90 in the manual tran. too?

The RP is good stuff! I have the 5AT but the man. Trans fluid spec is API-GL-4 75w90 as well. It's $20 per quart at Advance Auto Parts

I went ahead and put the Royal Purple Max-Gear in both the differential and MT last night. I immediately noticed an improvement. Maybe that is just the fact that it is new oil and not so much because it is RP, but it feels great so far. I had Red Line in there before and as for now RP feels better. Now it is just a matter of time to get a few thousand miles on it and see how it feels then.

It's a spa weekend for my G. It's finally warm enough up here for me to change out the diff and trans oils this weekend. I'm also going to do a normal oil change, power steering fluid change, and replace the serpentine belt. I have 12 qts of various oils/fluids just hanging out.

I'll let you guys know how G takes to the Redline MT-90 as promised.

Changed the oil and replaced the belt but didn't get a chance to change the diff and MT oils. Looking further into the MT-90 some had issues in our G's (from the DIY on MyG37) but Redline now has a MT-85 which is a direct replacement for the OEM Nissan fluid. I ordered this online so it should be here early next week. I'll be putting the MT-90 in the gf's wrx so at least it will find a good home.

^ good idea, like i said before the mt-90 is known to cause shifting probs in the G especially when cold, probably cause of the slightly higher viscosity

There doesn't seem to be a write up on the front diff...there is a slight paragraph in another DIY thread but says it's much more difficult on the front..may have to have the dealer do this one

The G likes the MT-85. The gearbox feels nice and smooth both warm and cold (it was 33* this AM). I would recommend to anyone looking to change to a 75W85.
