Questions about my new engine and the color of the oil

My new engine has about 2,700-2,800 miles on it. Guy at dealership said it would be a good idea to change oil at 3k first oil change. I went to go look at oil today as i have been every 500 miles..and it looks really brown. It's not black but its getting there..It seems burnt..but only after 2700 miles? I am now planning on doing an oil change next week. when i have time...Is this normal with a brand new engine? Or does it really depend on the type of oil they use that makes it that color?

Also, I checked transmission fluid and it looks pinkish with a hint of red. Now i know this is good. But before i brought the car in it was closer to brown than it is now. I know they replaced 2 qts of transmission fluid from the new motor exchange..only 2 qts changed the color of it all that much? I was just about to purchase 6qts for a partial fluid exchange but by the color it is now..i still have a while.

You need to understand that's break in oil and it's formulated to seal those new rings, don't worry about the color. After a couple more oil changes (dealership) switch to a quality synthetic so your new engine will remain happy....

We can only go as far as guess based on oil color. I've had oil where it was pretty much black, but UOA came out stellar.

If you really want to know if you can extend the OCI's, have it tested.

^ whs, in this advanced tech era of oils the color of the oil does not tell the exact story anymore... where are the good old day???

Anyways for the first couple oil changes stick with 3-3.5k to allow proper break-in and to drain out the excess material and then you can switch to syn and whatever interval you want as long as the oil is good (UOA wise).
