Coolant problems

Temp gauged rose on me once. I shut the car off and let it cooled down. There was no coolant. Filled it up and drove it for a couple weeks with no problems checking on the coolant levels every once in a while. Couple weeks go by I'm idling while waiting for a friend and I see white smoke coming from the engine bay. I shut the car off and let it cool down for a while. I look and no coolant. Temp gauged didn't go up, just white smoke. Filled it back up and I drove around for 2 weeks and checked on it every once and while. About 2-3 weeks go by, white smoke and coolant lost. Any ideas on what would be causing this?

Since the smoke was coming from the engine bay my guess is there is some loose or detached coolant hose. If you have some mechanical inclination, take a look and make sure all visible hoses are securely fastened and then see if it happens again.

Looks like you have a leak somewhere. Have you looked at the hoses or maybe even a crack on the radiator or reservoir?

God forbid you should have a blown head gasket, but considering the potential carestrophic consequences, it's worth checking for symptoms:

Hopefully I dont have blown gasket. I'll have to get a pressure check. I don't see any cracks. Thanks

A few quick checks though . . . Have you at least looked at your motor oil ? What's it look like on the dipstick? What does the coolant in your radiator look like? Any smoking upon startup or random CEL lights?

How much would it be to repair a blown head gasket!? They charged $1,000 for my 03 Altima! In for updates on this!

Oil looks fine and so does the coolant. No smoke upon start up and no cel lights. It weirds. Going to go ahead and change out the cap.

It's most likely not his head gasket Sal. It's just always prudent to check early when you're losing coolant inexplicably, rather than waiting and risking further damage occuring.

Sounds good that your oil and coolant look ok. It would seem you must be leaking it somewhere. Have you dropped the belly pan and searched all around for any indications of leaking?
