Review of TopSpeed Pro-1 G37 Sedan Exhaust

I finally pulled the trigger and purchased an aftermarket exhaust for the G35. Most of the aftermarket exhaust options for the 07-08 G35 sedan are very expensive. The Fast Intentions is around $1,400, Invidia is $950 and other are similarly priced. There is a Tanabe option that is only in the $600 territory, but it is an axle-back instead of a cat-back (or really a y-pipe-back) like most other options. I already have OBX long tube headers and an aftermarket y-pipe, so the only pipes that are still factory are the last section of piping. The TopSpeed Pro-1 G37 sedan exhaust fits the 07-08 G35 sedan and costs $370 on ebay. Feeling the inner desire relieve the bottlenecks in the exhaust flow despite the increased noise, I purchased this exhaust after finding one used on craiglist for $150!!!
On to the review...
Because my system was used, it was pretty dirty, but it cleaned up well with some soap, chrome cleaner and elbow grease. The exhaust is not nearly as nice as any of the other systems offered by Fast Intensions, Invidia, or Stillen. The welds are thick and sloppy, the muffler exterior design is outdated, and some of the pipes appear not to be not chrome. That said, buying one used means I get to see how it looks after being in the elements for some time and precludes any thoughts of it staying shiny new forever.
The fitment was poor because the passenger side muffler was touching the suspension and the rear bumper cover when all hangers were properly used. This may have been more of an issue with the previous y-pipe and header installs, but because the factory exhaust was not touching anything with those parts, I will blame it on the TopSpeed. I solved this problem by adding some washers between the passenger rear most hanger assembly bolts and the unibody to give it more room.
Without taking the car to the track or dyno to verify power, my seat of the pants dyno thinks, there is no more power being made under 5,000 rpms. It does seem to rev with more urgency above that rpm, especially near redline. My car is now begging for a full dynometer based tune as the flow parameters from the exhaust and intake are very different from stock and the computer is most likely not correcting for it.
Finally, the sound is great! It is not too loud, considering the car has no catalytic converters on it. It drones a little on the highway, but is just under my threshold of being annoyed with it. I do still keep the revs as close to idle on my street to keep peace with the neighbors.
At $370, the TopSpeed exhaust is a great deal for someone who wants an aftermarket exhaust for a slight power increase and exhaust tone but does not require welds and fitment required for a NASA spaceship. At $150, it is a steal and worth giving a potentially bad purchase a chance.

$150!? That's amazing! I may look into an exhaust down the road and that sure is a reasonable price..
