Dealing with P0420

Hi all, happy holidays.

Our 2007 (with 77k miles) threw the P0420 code last night, and I called the dealer about it who will see me on Monday. I didn't want any surprises so I mentioned the 8/80k warranty and his response was "Well if it is the cats, then yes it is covered."

I have to admit I didn't like the sound of that. What else could it be, if not the cats? If they do a different repair and clear the code, but it comes back in 3k miles, I'll be on the hook for a major repair and will have no recourse. Right now I have the 8/80k warranty.

I did some research last night and folks say that the O2 sensor would throw this sensor, but that it's not usually the be-all fix. I am only going to the dealer because of the warranty, can folks give me some talking points to prepare with to get this covered if they try to say it isn't the Cat?

Thank you for the link - it was one of the pages I read before posting. The part that worries me is this:

Replacing the oxygen (O2) sensors may sometimes fix the code, but in most cases the catalytic convert needs to be replaced to fix the problem. If the P0420 code is combined with other codes, try fixing the other codes first.
How do I avoid make sure they don't diagnose it as O2 sensors only to find out I need cats in another 5k miles, after the warranty has expired?

I got this code over a loose intake because I mistakenly only hand tightened my bolts hand tight on it.

I heard from the service advisor that they are in fact replacing the catalytic converter. Thanks for the input, folks.
