The AV connectors run through an existing hole behind the seats, under the seat cushion, along the transmission tunnel under the carpet and up into the center console where I have them plugged into the auxillary jacks. Maps are updated by use of an SD card inserted into the nav unit which is why it isn't hidden. Nav is displayed on the screen and directions are spoken through the car audio. The downside is that you can't listen to music while using the Nav (it works in the background when aux isn't selected) and you have to use the remote. The upside, certainly for New Mexico, is that the mapping is far superior to the factory Nav (pretty much all the dirt roads are listed) and there are no functional lockouts when moving. If you search the threads for bypassing aux lockout you will find information needed for the whole display while moving thing.
Do you have some pics of the gvn-52 in operation ?

When I have time I'll do a write up with pics. It pretty much looks like a Nuvi when it's operating, only on the factory screen.
Oh, the dash comes apart easily. The quality of the clips etc. is really high along with the sound deadening. No rattles or squeaks.

The cigarette tray is a nice idea that I thought about doing a few months ago. But, the downside is that you have to look down to see the directions.
I use the same stand.. works great and easy to move and view.

Now, just picture it sitting on top of your dash. The nice thing is that it can go anywhere on the dash area. So at times, I put it right over the instrumentation/steering wheel area. Or, I can put it the dash above the center console. I've even put it above the glove box. Once in place, it doesn't move.
awesome! thanks for that info! - what device do u use? nuvi? if so which one? or a street pilot?

The antenna is on the back of the unit. The unit is powered by a cord to your cigarette lighter. However, the Nuvi also can run on rechargeable batteries that are built-in the unit.

check out:
proclipusa.com

the mounts aren't cheap, but its rock solid and mounts nicely to the side of the center councel. if you pick the model and year of your car, they have pictures of it mounted up. I'm using one for my Nuvi 350 and love it.

do you think that the friction mount and a nuvi 660 would be able to fit in the glove compartment of the g35 when not in use?

Does your GPS have an external antenna? If not, how is the signal strength with it mounted down by the shift ****? I know the Tom Tom offers a plug in antenna, I'm not sure about other brands. Thanks

That was one of my concerns before I got the Nuvi, but I have been pleasently suprised. I usually get 3-4 (out of 5) with it mounted down there. I think the older GPS's needed to be in the windshield, but I guess with the newer ones, they have stronger antenna's. I really like the Garmin down there, it's not intrusive and actually looks nice.
