Where to mount afternarket GPS?
Where to mount afternarket GPS?
I found a great place to mount my Garmin NUVI 350 in the 04 sedan I had. No such luck in the 07. I hate to attach the disk for the suction cup on the dash because it may never come off. Anyone have the NUVI, and how did you mount it? Thanks in advance for ideas. Pics would be wonderful.

I have a Garmin 360, and found the perfect place. I don't have a pic just yet, but the suction cup is the place where the cigarettes go next to the cig light charger. I have the cord wrapper around the suction cup, which tighten the space so the suction cup doesn't fall out. The only bad thing is the LCD of the 360 blocks the shift letters (P,D, etc), but you can see it on your display if you really need to know what gear your in.

The unit is mounted on the roof of the trunk (just behind the light when you look in) and wired into the loom going to either the phone interface or the satellite receiver (can't remember which is which they are both mounted together). The antenna is magnetic and is just sitting on top of the metal under the rear shelf, no drilling required. The AV connectors run through an existing hole behind the seats, under the seat cushion, along the transmission tunnel under the carpet and up into the center console where I have them plugged into the auxillary jacks. Maps are updated by use of an SD card inserted into the nav unit which is why it isn't hidden. Nav is displayed on the screen and directions are spoken through the car audio. The downside is that you can't listen to music while using the Nav (it works in the background when aux isn't selected) and you have to use the remote. The upside, certainly for New Mexico, is that the mapping is far superior to the factory Nav (pretty much all the dirt roads are listed) and there are no functional lockouts when moving. If you search the threads for bypassing aux lockout you will find information needed for the whole display while moving thing.
I bought the Garmin "sandbag"/friction mount for my Nuvi. Now, I just throw it on top of the dash and I'm ready to go. It's worked really well for me and doesn't move one bit. Also, I can transfer it between my two cars with relative ease.
The cigarette tray is a nice idea that I thought about doing a few months ago. But, the downside is that you have to look down to see the directions.

What's the point of a screen in the center of the dash if you can't use it?

How hard was it to remove the dash? Any rattling after taking it apart?

Now, just picture it sitting on top of your dash. The nice thing is that it can go anywhere on the dash area. So at times, I put it right over the instrumentation/steering wheel area. Or, I can put it the dash above the center console. I've even put it above the glove box. Once in place, it doesn't move.

It works really well and the mapping is superb.
