Simplified Oil Change
Simplified Oil Change
On my last 14 cars or so (really), I have always installed one of these:

In fact there were a few cars in the past where we used to change the filter every Other time, so the in between oil changes were literally done in just a few minutes - open valve, drain out oil, close valve, refill, drive off. And no more searching through the hot oil for a dropped drain plug, worn plug/pan threads, etc.
I believe the part number for our cars is F-103, although I would recommend requesting the "N" version:

It has a small extension nipple on the drain port so you can slip a tube over it and direct the oil to an alternate drainage site (recycling box, etc.) which does not need to be placed directly under the vehicle.

No leakage ever, it's all solid brass with a special tight-fitting nylon ball rotating seal and it's made in the same country as our cars.
As for having it accidentally knocked off, it depends on how the original drain plug is situated. On oil pans where the drain plug is at the very bottom or lowest point of the pan and facing stright down then yeah, you should be careful but on all of my cars (so far) the plug is located in a bend or cant in the bottom of the oil pan, therefore the Fumoto Valve is turned sideways and is never lower than the pan's bottom.
I have not removed the skid plate on my car to check on the plug location yet, but if it's anything like my '04 Altima 3.5 SE it should be good to go. I do plan on adding this regardless so checking the pan bottom shape is inevitable, probably right when I break 3,000 miles since the next service would be at 3,750 which gives me time to order the Valve.

I used an "N" on my slammed '06 Chrysler 300C and clearance was fine.
I believe I paid something like $20-$30 per unit in the past.
