Pulling Dashboard parts, need advice

Is there a special tool used to remove the "leather" plates on the dash board.

I will be running some wire and want to put it out of sight.

I'm looking at removing the panels, on the lower driverside of the center consol and on the left side under the steering column.

Anything I shouldn't try to remove?

Also curiose about the gauge cluster and adjustable steering column. This entire thing moves when you adjust the wheel up or down, therefore there is a large opening between the dash and gauge cluster unit.

Are there any pinch points inside there where a wire could get caught, or something could fall in, or is it a sealed area?

just curious, what kind of wire are you running? If it isnt a thick gauge wire then you should be able to just push it in the cracks. Just my opinion, havent really looked at it.

Power cord for Radar detector.

I have it push in a bit but wasn't sure if that would damage the finish or not.

Get an invisicord. Much easier than taking the dash apart for that IMO.

Check out the thread "Anybody taken out harddrive yet". A guy in there has pulled the nav clear out of the dash. According to him, it's not all that tough to do either.

Yeah that guy is crazy...

But for something like this it's overkill IMO. You can get power elsewhere without having to take the dash apart to get to it.
