Subjective review of GroundingGear

Like the title says, this review is purely subjective - I didn't do resistance measurements, or dyno runs, etc. However, that puts it in the same class as all of the reviews I've seen of hyper-grounding on this site.

Bought Gord's 10 wire kit for the '07 AT sedan. Kit arrived on time, and install instructions were good (there were a couple of errors, which I've mentioned to Gord - but in all, clear and easy-to-understand).

I installed the kit in two stages - first, all of the engine bay wires, so everything except the ECU. Then went for some test drives, no change in the car's performance at all.

Next day, installed the ECU wire. Then took the car for several WOT runs as Gord suggests, to help the ECU understand the change - did this over the course of two days (at least 15 WOT runs through at least second gear in two days).

Result:
  • No noticeable change in power / acceleration. Wasn't really expecting this, as even the most optimistic claims would be too small to notice
  • No change in tranny performance. Shift delay and shift execution times remained exactly the same; shift smoothness was unchanged.
  • No change in smoothness of engine at high rpms
  • And finally, no change in smoothness of idle.

This is on an '07 G35 Sport AT, and the summary is zero noticeable difference. There are a few possibilities from this:
  1. My car is somehow different than other sedans, which is unlikely
  2. After installing the kit, one tends to pay more attention to the car, and notice (again) the smoothness, acceleration etc. So perhaps that's why there have been positive reports.
  3. There seem to be more noticeable changes on previous models. Perhaps the '07 is grounded better, and/or the grounding cables degrade over time
  4. And finally, it's always possible I'm just wrong.

Anyway, hope this helps others who are considering the kit. I'll be selling mine in the for sale forum (for anyone who disagrees with me )

excellent write-up...its very unbiased and sounds very true. I remember seeing a post on here that someone raved about how crazy the wires were, but yet never answered any questions about backing it up. ( chances are he was a vendor).

My friend had these on his altima se-r a while back and he told me his windows had more horsepower because they rolled up faster.

well I would think disconnecting the ECU totally would reset it automatically.. it's not like those things have hard drives?

Nope, not stated as a requirement. Instead, did the WOT runs as recommended by Gord.

Just out of curiosity since someone mentioned it, do the windows go up any faster now? Mine struggle when I have all 4 at once going up. On my Audi, they flew up. Not sure if grounding gear actually helps this, im just asking.

Didn't notice this, but also wasn't paying attention, so really can't say either way, sorry.

^^ Why are you laughing? Its a serious question. I dont really know what controls the speed of the windows and I have no clue why the car feels like it wants to shut down when I roll all 4 up at once. All I know is that it didnt do it on my Audi but it does do it on the G. I figure that even though it is a longshot, maybe better ground points might actually have something to do with it. And no, I wouldnt install this even if it did help.

the window motor strength controls the speed and torque of the window motion. i also have noticed that they pull a lot of current. the cause could be several... one of which may be grounding, but could just as easily be the positive lead too. imo it's an overall design issue there- my vote is the wrong motor selection.

could just be a care full of a million electronics and an alternator thats slightly under powered, just not to the point of failing.

easy way to test that theory. rev the car while operating all the windows and see if they go faster. let me know what you find (yes, i'm too lazy to go to the garage and do it) hehe...

Or, option 5, other people who use it believe it is doing something because they just spent money buying the thing and want to validate/justify their purcharse. I think your unbiased (albeit unscientific) review is probably spot on with reality.
