removing shift ****

i have looked around and found few useful stuff but i still dont get how i can remove the shift ****. after removing the shift boot, i just dont get where to "clamp a locking pilers around the shift lever". HELP!!!!

i already saw that thread but i wasnt sure cause the shaft is round so i dont get how piler is going to stop the shaft from turning. one way to find out i guess...
