Hi everyone,
So today I had some free time and decided to play a little more with my g35. I know that the 400 watt SOW system with 3 10" subs sounds pretty good, but i decided to throw in a fourth
i had a 700 watt rms MTX class D (600.1) amp sitting around and a new 10" pioneer premier competition sub in a fiberglass enclosurefrom my 2006 sedan.
Well then an obvious solution ... it must be installed ... so I decided to tap into the bose amp wire up the amp and hook up the woofer.
The reason I did this, was that I realized that in the 07 there is a perfect amp space behind the trunk liner (see pic 1) so i pulled out the lining ran the wires and hooked in the amp. I decided to use foam and zip ties to create a home for is as to not have to drill and holes in the body work.
The amp fits beautifully and you never know its there (pic 3)
Overall the sound is noteably better with a much stronger low end. The only thing i dislike is how much the trunk rattles on this car ... sigh ... i guess matting will come next .
Also, I made the enclosure for my 06 sedan so its not a perfect fit (but pretty good). It'll do unitl I make a new mold
So now i have 1100 watts and 4 10's ... overkill ? nah
just though I would share,
feel free to ask and questions.

since i know there are questions on this
here is how to tap the amp -
I tapped the rear door speaker amp outputs and it works great as the amp has a built in crossover.
Attached diagram
Look for this plug on the back of the bose amp.
Wires:
18 - LR(+) - ?dont remeber
19 - LR (-) - ? purple
31 - RR (+) - ?light green
32 - RR (-) - ?yellow
the colours are by my memory as for the wiring diagram includes one letter abbreviations that arent too useful.
Enjoy

I have contemplated this, because I think that the rear speakers in the car just don't produce much sound. However, that is also why I'm worried. Does it sound too low end heavy coming from the back now? I love the front speakers in this car, but to me its almost like they ran out of money and put crap in the back. I get no bass or treble out of them for the most part.

i am a new to installing amps & subs (did it on my last car with the help of an old neighbor who knew how). i kept the amp & sub & would like to put it in my G. You say we can just tap into the rear amp. I don't know all the official technical terms, but i think i understand the process...so...
By tapping into the rear amp, I am sure you mean this includes:
the signal wire (the actual audio)
the wire to tell the amp to turn on/off
can we also get the:
amp's power wire
Also, after you make the new custom enclosure post some pics if you are interested in selling one to me.

I hear ya,
when i installed the set-up yesterday, its sounded good. But now I took the car on a longer drive with the music up and the sub has gotten broken in, and it sounds fantastic.
Im really surprised as to how well balanced the bass is in the car. It is very complimentary and not at all overpowering. It fills in the void beautifully and makes the system sound like a proper aftermarket system as oppossed to the traditional "almost but no quite 'premium' factory upgrade"
Also the output is matched really well with the volume. In the 06 I had a problem where at low volume the bass would be overpowering and I would have to drop it with the remote gain ****. In this car that problem doesnt exist, and the power comes on very linearly. I actually disconnected the gain **** as it was not needed (that and i damaged one of the connectors in it
) But perosonally after a day with the setup i am very happy, and would definetly recommend this as an upgrade to supplement the sow.
cheers

Yeah, by tapping the amp, Originally Posted by stanfna

i extracted the outputs to the rear speakers and used this as my input for my amp (as in the diagram)
I didn't tap a remote on line as the amp has an auto-detect system running off the rca cables that automatically turns them amp on/off with a signal and does so quite well.
Definetely run your own power and ground. DO NOT tap that amp. The power demands of an aftermarket amp require a heavy gauge wiring and its own fuses, running off the stock amp could cause some severe problems

Couple of questions. Can you clarify whether you tapped from the rear speakers or the sub signal. It appears as you tapped from both. I have added an amp as well, but I am pulling the signal from the rear deck sub. At low volumes, the bass is too much for the stock system, like an auto loudness function. I have less wattage, but 2 ported 10's.
Im drawing off the rear speaker outputs and not the sub line.
im actually drawing directly from the cables going from the amp to the speakers (amplified signal) and not the input that leads from the headunit to the amp.
So im drawing a full frequency signal and then using the mtx amps cross over to isolate to low end.
By this measure i get a really well balanced sound and the bass is actually quite mild at lower volumes and then builds quite strong as your put up the volume

can you provide any tips, tricks or instructions on where to run the power/ground lines, where to connect, etc.?Originally Posted by ON_6MT

I ran the power line throught the passenger side from behind the battery box. There is a factory unpunched gromet there. I managed to squeeze 4 guage through it and ran the wire under the bottom pass side door sills to the trunk. Took about an hour by itself.Originally Posted by stanfna

I was playing around with an old cd with a sine sweep and bass frequencies one hz at a time. With my signal tapped off the sub line signal for the bose amp, there is a boost from 45 and below that is at least 10 db increase from the frequencies above. My amp bass boost is set flat. This week I will tap the line from the rear speakers to see if there is a difference.

I took a look from the inside passenger side but didn't bother pulling up the carpet or pad. Is the gromet directly behind the battery? I didn't get a chance to pull it yet.Originally Posted by 07-G35-MT/S

It's down just a bit from the battery on the firewall. Not the easiest gromet to work with.
