Is it normal to add oil during the break-in period

My 07S currently has 650 miles. I checked the oil today and noticed that it was a little below the top fill mark. Lower that it was last week when I checked the oil. Is this normal ?

I didn't need to add any ... but then again, I don't keep mine at the top fill mark either. I also haven't needed to add any between oil changes.

Was your car level when you checked it and I always check mine after it has sat all night.
The oil level is okay if it is between those two marks.

I have never had to add oil to mine either.

I'd say no, all of the tolerances should be tight in a green engine. Agree with the comments that maybe additional trending is needed (i.e. keep checking to see if it's really losing oil, or the two tests were just different).

I think it is to early to determine if you are loosing oil. In any case, I would bring it in at 1.5K mi. for an early oil change and to have the service department document your findings. [ get copy of the documentation with it stating customer noticed oil .25/.50 quart low at 650 mi ]. I can guarantee you that the dealer will tell you it is normal due to VQ rings settling in. If it turns out to be an issue latter you have proof you informed the dealer right away. Keep all your paperwork & service records. Good luck & don't stress it yet!!!

According to the manual it is normal to add some oil during the break-in period. The manual also states wait 15 min or more IIRC.

I'd relax about the oil consumption. I noticed the oil was slightly low at about 600 miles but then it stopped dropping. Since then had oil and filter changed at 3500 miles, and oil level has held steady since then, now at 4500 miles.

Just in case, you should document this oil history as other have suggested.

That's pretty much how mine is behaving. I am not worried I mentioned it to my dealer and they told me to monitor it.
