Hello all,

I've got a problem. I went to have some new muffs welded on to my exhaust and the bolt to the left rear most exhaust hanger snapped off. Obviously a problem as it is essentially just holding on now. The shop that did the work is about 35 miles away and I'm hesitating bringing it back there because I have no idea if the rest of the hanger will hold up.

My biggest question is it appears that the part that broke is a stud rather than a bolt. In other words, when you take the actual car part of the hanger off, you take a nut off, slide the hanger off, and then a (threaded) stud remains on the car. How in the world are they going to fix that?

A competent welder should be able to weld a threaded stud back on the vehicle, unless I misunderstood the extent of the damage..

I got it back to the shop and they tapped the old stud for a normal bolt. Seems to have worked. I hope it is a good permanent fix.
