Tonight I ordered a pair of Philips 6000K Ultinon D2S bulbs. I had these bulbs in my previous G35 Coupe and I loved them. I'm curious about the proper way to install them in the sedan. Do I install them in through the wheel wells (removing the plastic liner) or is there enough clearance under the hood? I want to do it right to avoid damaging the bulbs.

I plan on also raising the left headlight a little bit after the installation so that it lines up with the passenger light. Will I run into any problems doing this with the AFS headlights?

Any guidance would be appreciated. I plan on taking pictures to document the install.

I just changed mine 2 weeks ago. A lot of people try it with the wheels on, but IMO, it's so much easier when you take the wheel off. A couple extra minutes to take the wheel off will save you some aggravation in the long run.

 

I also changed mine last week..6000K. I didnt take off the wheel or lift up the car, I just pop out 4 plastic taps and pull the plastic liner all the way down till I see the "circular headlight cap - light gray color". Once you open the cap, you will see the HID plug (metal), remove that plug first as it will be much easier for you to work with those 2 wires that used to secure the light bulb. I followed this instruction here> http://forum.g35nyc.com/showthread.php?t=2039 The only diff. is at step 3, I took off the HID plug before pushing the 2 wires, this way you will be able to see how those wires secure the bulb and play with the wire structure and take out the bulb. I did the left side first and the right side only took me 7 mins after I figured out the left side..

 

You're going to love those! I currently have them. Makes such a big difference in appearance! Nice clean, clear white/blue tint. Perfection in my mind.

 

What would you say the temp/K is of the stock headlights?
Are these more white? Less blue? more blue?
The 8000k's sound pretty cool because they have a hint of blue, but I don't want the riced out look.

 

where did you order the bulbs from?

 

I dunno. I think the ultinon has too much purplish hue for my taste. I was hoping for cool white with a hint of blue.

I did not remove the wheels and thought the install was a royal pain. If I were to do it again, I would remove the wheels.

 

I love the ultinons. Like I said before, I had them on my old G35 coupe. They are great. Supposedly the stock D2S bulbs are rated at 4300K. 6000K is a perfect temp imo. They look blue (like BMW/AUDI) but they still provide adequate light output.

I ordered them off ebay for $180 new. I'll do a proper DIY writeup for the good of the community once I get them in the mail.

is D2S a brand name? Or is that the name of the size/bulb in the G35?

D2S is the type of bulb projector-based housings use. D2R are for reflector-based housings. Philips is the brand name and Ultinons are their model name. 6000K is by far the best compromise between light output and nice color
