Homelink active all the time?
I did a quick search in the tech forum, and didn't find many references to Homelink, so hopefully this hasn't been addressed already. On some cars that I've owned, the Homelink buttons are only active if the car is on. In others, the Homelink buttons are active all the time, even when the car is not on. The latter situation IMO is not a good one, especially for those of us who leave our cars parked in the driveway rather than in the garage. A thief could potentially break into a car configured this way, and open the garage. Yes, this would make a lot of noise which thieves probably don't want to attract. But in the end, it's a flaw that shouldn't be there.
I've been trying to figure out whether the Homelink button is active all the time for my G35x. I could probably test this by locking my wife in the car and walk out of range with the i-key. But I thought I'd ask and see whether anyone here knows. Right now, I'm assuming that because I unlock the car and sit in the driver's seat, the car is intelligent to know that the Homelink button should be active. But I'm worried that I'm giving the system too much credit, and in fact, the Homelink button is active all the time, whether or not the i-key is in range. Anyone know which is correct?

hahaha sorry i thought u lockin ur wife in the car was funny.....
What happens if you leave your car unlocked, leave your key indoors, and use the homelink? Does it work or no?
I don't think having the key near the car will fully power the car.. just the necessities like unlock/lock the doors...
And unlike the name, the key is NOT that intelligent...
