It seems unlikely that the oil is the problem, but I despise Pennzoil - had a previous engine die quickly after switching.

Just want to clarify, did the Malfunction Indicator Light come on? or did the small, red screen in the center of the dash say oil and oil filter maintenance? If it's the latter, then don't worry, it's a simple reminder that you can set to come on at a preset mileage or completely turn off.

IIRC, you set the mileage reminder to 0 miles. I believe the little red screen will say "--"

You have no respect for what you drive....!!

I have great respect for gasoline engines, my car and lawnmower. I would
never put pennzoil in any of them, Oh I don't shop at Wallmart either....

Would it be Ok for me to Switch to Synthetic oil now? I am currently at 4200mi. I have been putting the Dreaded oil as some here are saying(Penzoil) For regular break-in miles. Can I switch to full Synthetic now without hurting anything motor wise. Like seal and rings shoud have "SIT" or Broken in already? I can get Royal Purple here. Appreciate the Advice on this? THNX

I switched over @ 10k, but only because I was lazy to do so.

I'm pretty sure you can switch to synthetic, 3500 should be more than enough, if you've driven your car hard a few times.

I brought my car to Jiffy Lube for their labor to change oil. I brought my own Mobil 1 synthetic and Purolator One filter. They use Pennzoil as their standard brand and the guys there said Mobil 1 is much better than their oils. They bring their own Mobil 1 also when they change oil in their own cars.

Pennzoil Platinum is as good if not better than the Mobil 1 in VQ engines based on UOA's under 3k change intervals, if you are comparing it to regular pennzoil, then you have a point, but almost any synthetic is going to be better than a conventional oil

Pennzoil platinum is a VERY good and inexpensive synthetic as shown by tons of UOAs on bobistheoilguy

What is the "Best" synthetic oil?

Okay, you guys have piqued my interest. With all this talk about Pennzoil and Mobil 1, What is the best synthetic oil out there, price be damned? Any opinions? I am torn between Mobil 1 and Castrol, but I am curious what other people think.

IMHO, I would go with Pennzoil...My dad works at a plant in Texas and they come across a lot of different oils and he recommends Pennzoil, it is said to have the least amount of salts...
