FYI owners of BMWs are having sludge issues due to the 15k oil changes. Owners are now changing their oil between the maintenance requirement to prevent this from happening. BMW is doing it to save on costs. Research is a good thing sometimes. You might want to do that.

The oil change interval recommendation comes from BMW corporate. Why would they lie to save pennies on oil changes in order to make money for the dealer's service center (no $$ for BMW)??

That's a pretty big conspiracy theory, but when there's nothing to gain, I seriously doubt the conspiracy.

BMW is NOT going to jeopardize their long term reliablity numbers and resale in order to save pennies on oil changes. If they say it's safe. I believe them.

Honda is recommending 7-10k intervals in most of their vehicles with regular dino oil and they don't provide free service.

Yep, Treach, I'm already a preferred Amsoil customer and like you have been for years.

I decided to wait until the 11,250 to switch over to synthetic because I was concerned I was burning oil. Problem seems to have abated, probably because I wasn't measuring the oil first thing in the morning but after waiting 5-6 minutes at the pump or before driving home from work. I think a lot of oil sits in the engine for a longer time in the G than I expected.
