wireless key low battery

So I get into my G this morning, and after starting the car, I am presented in the information display box with a key and battery symbol, showing that my battery is 2/3 empty? Really?

1. Is there a way to recharge the battery?
2. Is this normal?

1. no
2. yes

I got my warning after about a year of "normal" use. Didn't chnage it for about 1+ month after the first warning.

BTW, very ez to change the battery

There is a slot to the left of the steering column, under where the trunk release button is, that you can slide the key into and it'll give it an extra charge. I'm pretty sure you slide the entire "smart key" into this slot for it to work.

Yes it is normal for the battery to run out. You cannot recharge the battery, you have to replace it.

it will not charge the key (battery) but it will allow you to start the car with a dead key.

^ +1...many dealers are clueless and will tell you that it recharges it.

Search is your friend my friend

Read through this thread and you will see about changing the battery, settings and the fact that the battery is NOT rechargeable in the fob. You insert it so the car can pick up the key's signature when the battery is too low to read it via radio waves.

Good luck!

Replaced the battery using cr2032. Very easy to split open key fob, and R&R. Back in business with the G. 1 year is bit short to replace battery, when my aging volvo gets 5-8 years per cr2032. Thanks for the advice!

And on top of that I learned how to use the search. More information than I wanted.

9 months and my key battery light is on, with about 12k miles on the car.
My 05 Dodge ram lasted 3 years and was still going strong when I sold, my 07 Dodge ram is 14 months and still going strong.
Wife just called me from the gas station and her gas door is stuck shut. I told her to drive the car home to me, as I'm afraid of anybody else pushing on it (scratch or push it out of shape) Anybody else think the gas door is a bad design?

These keyfobs are doing a lot more than you dodge ram remote. I've got over 1.5 year on my battery. I had one battery so I just changed it.

Never had a problem with my fuel door. Maybe she locked the doors when she's got out from the car?

I used the same fob for more than 3 years with my '05 G...no problems and didn't have to replace the battery once.

battery

I bought my G in June of this year and the battery warning lite came on December 1. Not a big deal, but this is pretty short battery life.
