Registering new TPMS with G35

I have a 2008 G35X Sport and purchased 4 OEM 18" Sport rims (used) and 4 new Blizzaks LM-25s (225-50-18). Now I'm trying to decide whether I should buy the TPMS sensors or not. Trying to get information to decide. So I have a few questions:

1) How hard is it to re-register a new pair of TPMS to the car's computer. I've read it has to be done by a dealer.

2) Is the re-registration process easy to screw up?

3) Has anyone done it on a regular basis and be able to walk out of the dealer in a relatively short time with the job done RIGHT the first time?

4) Should I just have a competent tire place move the TPMS back and forth from my rims with the all seasons to the snow's and back in the spring instead? From what I've read, tire places should be able to deflate the tires, loosen the tire bead right by the sensor and remove it....

It's getting close to the cold season in NJ so I need to make a decision soon.. Any help would be great!

The dealer can reprogram the sensors.. My dealer charges around $40. This must be done each time you change to other wheels with different sensors. So if you have a summer and winter set, it has to be done and paid for each Spring and Fall, which is a pain in the *******.

Best just to go without in one set, that way you don't have to mess around each time. Just put up with the little light on the dash. You don't even notice it after a while. That is what most owners do.

People going to hate me for this but I say it anyways. To me it is weird. Most people spend 2k on the aftermarket wheels and tires. Maybe more and $80 a year is too much for the reprograming.

This somehow the same idea to buy a 306 hp car and drive it like granny because of the gasprice.

You do not need a new set of sensors. IMO its a waste of money. No one had them years ago and we survived just fine. How hard is it to check your tires every other week?

My Blizzak wiinter setup cost $750.00.....plus you do not have to re-register once you put back your summers. The sensors will reset themselves once the summers are back on the car.

I don't hate you for saying that, for me , I'm not that lazy, I don't mind checking my tire pressures in the summer time.

I don't have a problem spending the $300-$400 for the TPMS sensors. I just spent almost $700 for the used rims and $750 or so for the snows. So I'm in it for roughly $1400 already.

What I don't want is the dealer to screw it up and me always have to deal with the low tire pressure light on the dash. I want it done right the first time period.

If the consensus is that dealers screw it up frequently, maybe I should just swap the sensors from tire to tire.. But if re-registering the sensors with the car is an idiot proof process, then I'll probably buy the sensors..

Hence the reason for me starting this thread..

my situation was a bit different ... i can't switch from stock to winters back and forth cause nothing clears the g37 brakes... and the light was getting somewhat annoying... i haven't had my car in the winter yet but next week i am getting winter tires installed on my wheels. (they're not polished they're enkei gtc) so they should be alright with snow and salt bla bla... so what i did is since my spare tire won't clear my brakes i stuck all the TPMS sensors inside my spare tire.... works fine.

Agreed. As long as you check the tire pressure every 2 wks to 1 month, it will not be a problem. However, since we have it, I don't want to have that low pressure light on constantly....

Wondering if Mike from Riverside can chime in here????? Mike??

i had bought new sensors for my rims/tires in aug07 and had them programmed at the nissan dealership for around 40 bucks.

since i am in the south and we se snow under 5 times in the winter, i kept them on the car. the stocks stay stacked in my garage until i know i am going to the drag strip.

anyways, just recently it all of a sudden started blinking like i didnt have any sensors in the tires. i think the car might of lost the information on the sensors and i might have to have them relearned again.

They don't reset, they just start working because they're still in the CPU memory.

As long as you don't use a 2nd set of sensors...

I'm just wondering if it's an easy job that dealer's can't screw up? I just don't want to deal with the light always being on and ultimately burning the bulb out...

I know that many owners just deal with the light being on but I prefer not to be that way...

Talk to your Dealer about it. I don't think it is a big job for them to re-program it for you, if you don't mind taking it in to get it done.
