Smile Burning Smell Fixed...DIY

After two and a half days of noticing a burning smell coming from the front left wheel well and seeing nothing amiss under the car or in the engine bay, I stopped by the dealer to see if they had any clues. The mechanic who happened to be in the service reception area halfway chuckled and walked out to the car with me. Not a small man, he grunted as he got on all fours to look under the car. I heard a laugh, and then he huffs, "Plastic Bag! See it...right there." He was pointing to the Catalytic Converter, which was farther back than I had bothered to peek. Sure enough, a plastic bag had melted to the Cat. Mechanic tells me to let the car cool down overnight, then crawl under with some Goo-gone and a razor blade. Says they do it all the time. Looks like I've got a fun early morning before work!

The same thing has happened to me twice in the month I've had the car. I haven't scraped, but have instead opted to cook them off...they seem to take a hundred miles or so.
