ground loop isolator

I've had an LOC and external amp in my car for about 6 months. Recently, that old "whizzing" noise has started to show up - not just if I use an Ipod, but through the radio as well. Is it safe to use a ground loop isolator between my LOC and my amp. Second question is will it do any good?

Make sure your ground point is good, and that the paint under the eye loop you're using is scraped away. Also, make sure the metal is solid and not thin.

A ground loop is fine and won't cause any problems (use as the last resort). Most are in-line and go between the LOC and the amplifier via the RCA cords.

Thanks. The ground is good. Just checked it yesterday. Can't figure out why the noise just started (and wasn't there for six months), but just wanted to make sure the isolator wasn't going to cause a problem in and of itself. Just a question, why would it be a last resort? Is there some inherent problem with using one?

No, last resort meaning after you check the grounds, and even try a new grouding point. Plus, you have to lay out the cash for one, versus trying the grounds.

Cool. Got it. Already had the GLI laying around, so no worries.
