Terry, come here and have a talk with us.

I saw your name and your car on GTmotorsport website. They claim that your car is pushing down 456whp with their twin turbo kit. I would like to ask you several questions and people here may be interested too.

1) Did you do any upgrade to the engine before and after the twin turbo project?

2) Did they give you any warranty on the engine and the turbo kit?

3) How much did you spent for labor, parts, and tuning?

4) Any pros and cons after the twin turbo has been installed?

5) Any track time before and after?

Thank you in advance for your inputs.

I can answer a few of those questions for you.

1) Did you do any upgrade to the engine before and after the twin turbo project?
No previous engine mods before the TTs were done except for the Fast Intention Cat-Back (no HFCs or test pipes).

2) Did they give you any warranty on the engine and the turbo kit?
I doubt there are any warranty, but if it's related to their mistakes with installs, they'll cover the damage. (Limited liability I believe?)

3) How much did you spent for labor, parts, and tuning?
I don't think he can disclose the exact price, but if you want the exact same setup as Terry's, it's gonna run around upwards of $17k.

4) Any pros and cons after the twin turbo has been installed?
This needs to be addressed by Terry. Sorry.

5) Any track time before and after?
I don't believe Terry ever tracked his car yet, but I'm pretty sure he can hang with them big power cars no problem.

Final power measurements are actually closer to 470WHp at 9-10 psi. But there was a boost creep problem they later resolved on a subsequent visit where the boost went up to 12-13 psi. Rule of thumb is 20WHP per psi so the car theoretically was making maybe up to 530WHp at one time?

The whole story can be found here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/tech-07...rning-gtm.html

1) Stock block, but modified transmission (transmission cooler and shift kit).

2) Technically, there is no warranty on the motor, but GTM will work with you if there are installation problems. However the components themselves are warranted.

3) That's about right with all my add-ons, but the prices have come down quite a bit with the use of factory ECU instead of the piggy back that I have.

4) Biggest pro - jaw dropping power when needed, very street-able when not. Cons - Only minor issue is slight rattling sound where I/C pipe is hitting the frame. They fixed it once so it must have moved again over time. I'm just too lazy to drive all the way back over there for this minor issue, but I will. Another con with turbos is a little extra care is needed to allow the turbos to cool down when you get to your destination and extra vigilance to make sure oil is clean and up to level.

Other than that, it's been a blast to drive. I took it out to Palm Springs earlier this week and I must say the drive was anything but boring.

5) Never been tracked. It's very tempting and I'm sure one day I will - but I'm not in any rush to risk breaking something.

The question I would ALWAYS seem to get asked at meets is whether or not I would do it again. I would say "NO" if I knew ahead of time how long it would take since it ended up being a lot of R&D and because I didn’t have a backup car at the time. But a resounding YES if I were to buy a fully functional set up as current customers do. Yes, I would recommend GTM for this because of all the experience they have gained in this whole project.

One last question, do you have to upgrade the torque converter for Auto or clutch for Manual?

My 5AT is still alive with just trans cooler and shift kit, but I don't really beat on my car (I'm averaging 18mpg combined) . I suppose added transmission mods would be needed for higher power applications or if you plan on boosting from light to light. The clutch in GTMs 6MT shop car started slipping at close to 600WHp IIRC.

I'd like to know more about the tranny cooler and shift kit.

I spend 99% of my time in "M" mode and although I don't beat on it, I'd like to do whatever I can to extend it's life.

Normal driving with some fun in city I got 18mpg. I tried to drive like a granny and all I got is 18.4mpg so it is not worth it to save some gas and sacrifice the joy of driving.
With 70% highway and 30% city, I got 21.4mpg.

However, when I moved to Minnesota this January, I only got 16mpg in city because of the cold weather, slow traffic, many stops, and have to warm up the car for 2-3 mins every time I take it out from the garage.

My normal driving averages about 15.5mpg... although recently I've been very careful with the speed and was able to get around 17.5~18mpg.

I think I'm going to be one happy camper if I get 18mpg with 450+whp.
