Auto trans is going to get me killed! Hanging up between gears.

I was merging from one parallel highway to another today and I down-shifted the auto to get more RPM's. I quickly hit the rev limiter and tapped the shifter to upshift. In return, the transmission just froze and the car decelerated for 2 or more seconds before it "decides" to grab the next gear. It would have gained speed it I actually had a clutch to dump to free the wheels to allow momentum to accelerate the car. Instead, this "hanging" up of the transmission kept me from accelerating, if not caused me to decelerate.
That almost got me rear ended.
I did not enjoy my sphincter puckering experience at all.
I'm almost wished they had offered a 6 speed manual in the G35x.
Infiniti better offer the DSG from the GTR in the G35x soon.
I wished I was driving my Corvette during my "incident" today.

. Its definitely a shame they dont offer the AWD on the X, but im sure it was removed on the X for their security. Have you ever launched an AWD manual? They launch very hard at high RPM's but the clutch and the drive axles take a major beating.
Happened to me 2day. Almost crapped my pants on the express way. I believe I was on 5th down shifting to 3rd and it stalled for about 2 seconds. I'm wondering if I should get the ecu reflashed. I'm also experiencing the thump from 2-3 gear during paddle shifting at times.

2. You car just assumes you dont know how drive when you hit the rev limiter in the manner you did. It will cut throttle during that upshift, combined with your attempt to go wot accelerate(the 2 second feeling you described), will continue the effect. This is the case with VDC off and much more so with VDC engaged.
maybe i'm not understanding this, but as 07GraphiteV36 said, if you hit the rev limiter, the car is going to cut power for a couple of seconds to let the revs drop back down. The manual should have the same behavior (but i didn't hit the revlimiter on the manual when i test drove it), my IS300 and Integra GS-R both did that and they were manual transmissions. Once I hit the rev limiter, no amount of shifting mattered until the "recovery period" completed.
A couple of possibilities:
From your description, sounds more like the first one.
- As others have said, you hit the rev limiter which hung you up
- Also, I've found that if you hit the gas hard and downshift at the same time, the tranny will hesitate. I've learned to downshift first (I think) and then hit the gas, doesn't usually happen now

Why not just press the gas pedal a little more and let the car downshift for you? I hate to sound sarcastic, but, isnt that the point of an automatic transmisson. Ive found that driving in normal D mode and using the manual shifters leads to slow shifting. Putting the car in DS mode gives increased trans line pressure that is required for faster shifting. When the car is left in D mode and you downshift, the transmission line pressure is still low so the shifts arent going to be fast. If you're going to be using the manual mode you really should have it in DS mode from the get-go to get the desired results. Otherwise, just keep it in D an let the car do it for you.

TT C6 what gear were you in (4th ds to 3rd)? The car must have been right on your a$$. I've dropped a few times from 3rd to 2nd, depending on how slow I'm going, big violent boost occurs then. Love every second of it! I imagine I'm merging onto the Autobahn!!!!
It might be that like someone a few posts up mentioned you hit the rev limiter (i.e. might have been going a little too fast the tac pinged the limit, then dropped back slightly, then kicked back in). Have also done that when I've forgoten I'm in M mode.

I notice this all the time with my car and 3 other g35x's (loaners). The tranny really does act weird like that.
Even when left in fully auto, i find the there is some weird shifts at partial throttle, which i complained about, but the dealer says its normal.

a/t = fail, lol
yeah, this happened to me once after i hit the limiter, 2 sec delay is junk, they need to get rid of that and let the computer do what is necessary so it just doesn't cut off all response, the car needs to move

Plain and simple: it's the VDC "helping" you.
This is a major problem with the transmission programming, if you ask me.
I have had my car in several times for this issue, and was finally told that there is a sensor that detects the pressure in the transmission; when you downshift and floor it, this sensor mistakenly detects potential wheel spin and cuts the power.
It happens to me all the time, and it drives me nuts.
The service manager at my Infiniti dealership finally acknowledged the problem but told me in all honesty that until a TSB comes out they can do nothing.
More people need to report this issue to their dealership...
BTW: this problem is most prevalent on X models!

This happened to me too also a few times. I had no idea what happened but I experienced the exact same thing. This happened though for me as I upshifted from 1-2nd gear. I punched it to WOT as I was trying to merge into the highway and once it upshifted to 2nd gear it just hung there for a second or 2. I almost got rear ended also because I anticipated my car to keep accelerating so I merged into the next lane as this happened.
