Auto Headlights - Revisited

I know that several months ago there was a thread that talked about the auto headlight switch. Someone said that sometimes (while parked in the dark) the headlights would come on when the un-lock button was pushed, and sometimes it wouldn't. Well, this morning I was in the garage and opened my door when suddenly my lights came on. The switch was obviously in the "auto" mode, but I've never had that happen before. I've left my lights in the "auto" mode quite often, but I've never had the lights pop back on when I opened the door. The situation was as follows: parked the car 5pm, left lights on auto, and did not lock the doors. 8am I opened the door and the lights turned on. Pretty cool function if it worked every time.

Has anyone experienced this?

No. Did you maybe leave your headlights ON, and they cut off with the five minute power-off, then came back on with the remote?

^^The headlights will not come on with the remote unless you turn on the engine or push the engine start button twice; given that the headlight is indeed on auto or turned on manually.

This happened to me also. I remember turning the headlights on manually while driving, parked and shut off the engine, put the headlights back on auto mode (which turned the lights off) and opened the door. The headlights turned back on. I lock my doors and they shut off like normal. I believe this function is normal b/c I've done it multiple times.

I recently noticed this. Went into my garage one morning and the lights turned on as soon as it sensed my smartkey. Now I noticed it's doing some other things. Like not turn off when left in auto as it killed my battery this morning. Turns out the headlights were still on when my coworker got in. Anyone else have this issue?

Only time these gremlins happened to me was when the battery started failing, which it eventually did.

With the new battery, i haven't had any of the gremlins show up.

Funny you should mention that, I used to own a BMW 5 Series and it would exhibit the same kinda gremlins when the battery started going low. Makes sense, new battery is goin in soon.

Change your battery ASAP. I had weird things happen but took the car out anyways and was almost stranded at a shopping mall. Luckily i managed to get it to start.
