Pre Owned Certified - Paint problemq

I purchased a 2007 Infiniti G35X about 8 months ago. The car is pre owned certified.

I noticed a spot of paint peeled off by the rear right fender today while I was waxing the car. This is the first time I am noticing it and that's the only spot on the car that's peeled.

I've read that this is caused due to improper paint application at the factory. I am pretty sure no one hit my car or scrapped my car as it is a spot where it's hard to hit or scrap.

But anyway I wanted to see if I can try and get infiniti to do something about it since the car is under the certified pre owned warranty.

I am guessing I am SOL'd on this issue seeing that it might be categorized as a "wear and tear" issue. Any suggestions or thoughts will be much appreciated.

PS the weird thing is i havent noticed the paint peeling in the past few months until today when i noticed that I could see the metallic part of the car in that spot.

How big is the spot? Will it get bigger? If it's small and you can do it w/ a touch-up paint, that's the best solution. I wouldn't want them to repaint the fender even if they do it for free.

Goodeal 2,

I would say the spot is probably 3 inc by 1/2 in. I am not sure if it will get bigger for sure.

The other thing I noticed was that it's right by the wheel well and I live in Buffalo, NY where we get a lot of snow. I am not sure if it's due to my snow tires kicking up all that salt but I should probably check by the other wheel wells to see if that's the case and if I can notice any peeling.

But the thing is I had a Nissan Sentra in these conditions for 6 years before the infiniti and I never had any rust spots on the car or any peeling at all.

tg1234,

I purchased the car from a dealer and I made sure to run a thorough car fax report. But now that does'nt mean the fender wasn't replaced. I know that when I sold me Nissan a year ago and I ran a Car Fax on it some of the minor accidents I had with the car were not on the report.

So, who knows you know?

Yeap. Also if the owner did not report it just replaced it. It wn't show up on carfax. Part of the game when you buy used. Hope everything works out good for you.

I live in snowy area and never had issue with paint comming off.

You think I can get the dealer to anything about it at all?

I am guessing no, right?

Well, it's an '07, so, if the car has never been repaint or was repainted by the Infiniti dealer, you should have a good chance to get it done for free...assuming that there's a flaw in the paint itself.

It would straight forward if it was one owner. Since you are the second owner I don't think they go for it. Just my .02

Pics would be helpful. Where did you read your problem was an issue with improper paint application at the factory? If it is your dealer should be able to determine that and make a warranty claim.

Hmm. Ok I'll post pictures when i get home.

I was incorrect actually, it's not the fender as I had thought, the paint is actually peeling on the bumper where it meets the fender.

I just googled the problem and one of the articles I was reading said that. I'll try and find it when I get a chance.

That makes more sense. I don't usually see this issue on the fender b/c it's metal. Usually, you will find repaint bumpers have this issue b/c the bumper is flexible.

^^^

That's why I asked if it was repainted.

I think a car was in a little fender bender or in this case bumper bender or maybe had soe scratches. The previous owner probably took the hit and paid cash for the repaint.

Yeah I hear what you guys are saying. The car was actually used as a loaner car so as far as I can tell the only owner was the Infiniti Dealer I purchased the car from.

I am trying to put some pictures up but we've been getting hit with some bad weather. I'll try to put them ASAP though.

Sorry, I might hurt your feeling but for an educational purpose: loaner = rental. Most people will try to stay away from those cars.

I'm surprised that they kept that car for 2 (model) years. I think they usually let it go as soon as the newer year come in.
