Hey guys, any chance we could reopen this discussion? I just purchased a used G35, and apparently some sort of small creature tried to make a home under the hood a while back and ended up shredding about a 9"x5" hole into the hood liner (passenger side). Any chance of patching it with some sort of stick-on liner, or am I subject to the $310 that the dealership wants to replace it? Does it need replacing/patching? The previous owner put some black duct tape over the hole. Any danger there? Thanks in advance for the help.

They are just for sound deadening. You dont really need it, but if you insist get some Dynamat hood liner or something that is better.

Amazon.com: Dynamat 11905 Hoodliner 32" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Self-Adhesive Sound Deadener: Automotive Amazon.com: Dynamat 11905 Hoodliner 32" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Self-Adhesive Sound Deadener: Automotive

I removed it.

I had the exact problem. Winter storage, some little bugger got under the hood and used the liner material for their home.

I have had it off for about a month and no problems to report. The hood never gets hot to the touch even in 30+C stop and go traffic.

Only thing to note is at around 110km/hr I get a very faint drone. I hardly even notice it and I don't drive that speed very often anyway to care.
