There is hope for swirls on black paint

We recently purchased a Black 2007 G35 Sedan... swirl city. I think the dealer must have used some wax full of fillers, because I didn't notice how bad it was. After a week or two, it would look gray in the sun instead of black because of all the swirls! The swirls on this car were ridiculous, I think the previous owner must have had a job reviewing gas station car washes, and visited all of them!

Anyway, after lot's of trial/error and playing around I found a combination that works well with a DA polisher. Here's the general breakdown.

1) Clay car
2) Meguiars M105 with SurBuf pad
3) Meguiars M205 with LC White pad
4) Meguiars M205 with LC Black pad
5) Apply your favorite wax

I didn't put in all the other steps, like washing, taping, napping, IPA wipedown, pizza break, etc.

18 hours of work, and it now looks fantastic in the sun.

I've upped my washing game, to reduce the chance of adding swirls, and I plan to do a yearly clay/polish with M205 to keep it happy.

Yes, my wife thinks I'm crazy.

Anyway, if your car looks like cr*p, don't despair, you too can spend a crazy amount of time and restore it to a pristine shine.

Thanks. We love the car so far. This forum has already provided me with tons of good information, so I thought I'd share.

My hairdresser actually bought the same model/color car at around the same time, and hers is suffering from swirl city as well. So I might do a trade and fix her paint in exchange for a bunch of hair cuts

Hopefully since I can do the whole process in 12-14 hours now...

Great products! I use the same on my 07 OB G35s. Although I've never needed to use the 105.

I've been adding a few coats of klasse sg to make it bullet proof for the winter.

Nice, I went through the same thing when I bought my OB sedan from the dealer. It was three years old and the paint was in terrible shape. I also did not initially realize how bad it was because of all the glaze and fillers the dealer put on it.

Check out the detailing section on this website for loads of information and also vendors offering some good prices on detailing products. I personally use the Menzerna line of polishes with porter cable and have had awesome results with them

You know... I've been lazy with the Klasse SG.

After I did all that work, I applied a polycharged Klasse AIO, which kind of looks/feels like Klasse SG.

But I should have added a layer of polycharged Klasse SG on top of that... maybe I'll do that this weekend

I realized after I posted this that there would be requests for pictures

So, I'll wash and take some pictures this weekend when we're due for some sunlight and show off the results.
