MORE DETAIL:

Meeting Place - Albertson & McDonald's parking lot - Exit 223 off of the I-17. Once you get off at exit 223, Carefree Highway turn right (east). You will see A Chevron, McDonalds and Albertson's on the Left. I will be in the parking lot on the east side of McDonalds close to the Highway.

Arrive early... say 9:30 to meet everyone. We will leave at 10am.

The first planned stop will be at Camp Verde - Exit 287. This will give everyone a poddy stop and a chance to stretch. (I understand not everyone will need to stop, but I am sure someone will.)

We will then continue North on the I-17 to the Sedona exit - Exit 298, also route 179. After making a left (west) we should be able to re-group on the shoulder. I believe there is enough room to stop our entire group here. This is one potential place for those coming from other directions to meet us. I expect to be here between 11:20 and 11:30.

From here we enter the red rock all the way into Sedona. I would like to make one stop before lunch to take pictures of everyone with the rocks on the background. I have a couple of spots in mind that we can stop but will not decide on one until I see how many cars we actually have.

After one quick stop for a picture or two we should arrive at our lunch spot about 12:15ish or sooner depending on the time spent at our stop. Our lunch spot will be determined by the tallied votes on the yahoo group page (see post above). Depending on where we eat lunch (fast food or nice cafe) lunch could take an hour to an hour and a half.

1:30ish, after lunch, we will continue on 89A North towards the I-17 and Flagstaff. The twistes should be fun.... According to Mapqwest, the trip from Sedona through Oak Creek and back to the I-17 should take about an hour of driving (55 minutes, 25 miles). Depending on traffic and our habits we may take less time. At lunch we can get a feel for what everyone wants in regaurds to number of stops. We can make as many or as few stops as we like. Sean thought that the Dairy Qween would be a good place to stop. There is a lot of room to pull off and is potential a good spot to be seen. There is ice cream too.

Before we reach the I-17 again (we will be at exit 337) we can pull off and say our good byes. This is where I planned on ending the meet. If my calculations are right, we should be here no later than 3:30 including a couple stops but no problems. If anyone is interested in continuing to Flag for some other activity (happy hour maybe), I am sure some one will be game.

To get back to Phoenix, go south on the I-17.

Bring you camera. It should be a beautiful day... I ordered perfect weather. If you have a walkie talkie bring it along so we can talk while on the road. I will have a radio and my cell phone if anyone gets seperated.

WHERE ARE ALL YOU G OWNERS AT!!!??? We don't want to be outnumbered by the Z's!! We have 2 for sure and 2-3 more probable.

LOL, thanks Nate. I just edited my sig and almost did it again! Maybe I should trade it in for the right tranny!

PS. I think (I hope) there will be more G’s, but I don’t think they’re all actively on this forum…

I just got back from the Cruise in California. Had a lot of fun and met many G owners. Brought back some good ideas for out club here too....

I'm getting excited for I drive to Sedona, the drive should be a lot of fun.

I just got back from the Big California meet... what a showing. They have several key people who are really helping their club get up and running. I brought back some of their ideas and have some of my own. Hope we can get everyone involved.

Invite all G and Z owners you know so we can have a good showing.

See everyone on the 8th. Be sure to vote for your preferred lunch spot.

 

Just wanted to update everyone on our lunch poll. There were a total of 16 votes for our destination and Oak Creek Brewery was the winner. I look forward to meeting everyone, with 16 cars (assuming one vote per car) we should have a lot of fun!

Remember it is going to be cold in Flag for those of you going to there afterwards. It will be in the upper 40's in flag that afternoon. It will most likely be in the lower 40's at the scenic view at the top of the canyon when we get there and it will be in the lower 60's in Sedona when we start the drive. Leaves peaked last week but should still have some excellent fall foliage.
