Japan Expo 11/15/03

Anyone going to this Expo? I wana go!! See attach for details!! Its at the LA convention center! Full of cars, and anime stuff!

Traditional Japanese culture combined with the sights and sounds of contemporary Japan will enchant visitors to the 24th Annual Japan Expo 2003. This two-day event will feature "The Best of Japan" and will celebrate 150 years of trade between these great nations "US-Japan 150".

Japan Expo 2003 will be held November 15-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall G, 1201 S. Figueroa St, with show hours 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM on Saturday and 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Sunday.
Japan Expo 2003 will feature a multitude of exhibits including fine art, custom cars, anime-manga, games, arts, and more!

The 240SX car show will feature Southern California's top notch show and driftcars to compete for trophies. This 1st annual show is being produced by Showoff, a recognized nationwide car show circuit and drifting events that is catching North America by storm. Dont miss your chance to see car show history in the making with the Japan expo.

The Opening Day Ceremony will kick off the event on Saturday, November 15, from 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM. Distinguished guests will include the Consul General of Japan, Mr. Yoshio Nomoto and Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. A sampling of performances from the weekend's entertainment will be featured, culminating in the traditional breaking of the Sake barrel.

A special exhibit marking the 150 year Anniversary of Commodores Perry's arrival in Japan will be highlighted. For two centuries, Japanese ports were closed to all but a few Dutch and Chinese traders. On July 8,1853, four black ships led by USS Powhatan and commanded by Commodore Matthew Perry, anchored at Edo (Tokyo) Bay. A United States naval officer, Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry successfully negotiated with Japanese officials to open Japan's doors to trade. Commodore Perry's diary, historic photos, official documents and a video presentation created in honor of this historic event will be shown for the first time on the West Coast.

The Japan Expo main stage will be filled with entertainment for all ages. Sword demonstrations from local groups as well as a professional group from Japan performing "Chambara" combat demonstrations with two or more swordsmen; short story of a "Ninjya"; professional Taiko player from Okinawa, Japan playing the Miyanaga (Japanese drums); professional musician, Shohei, on the Japanese flute Shakuhachi, playing popular sounds of American and Japanese tunes; a professional singer performing traditional Japanese blues "Enka"; and a fun and entertaining Anime show.
