Customized License Plate!!!

I want to have a customized license plate for myG. How does it work? When I looked up the website of DMV, they say I should pay a certain amount annually. Is it true?

Plus, I saw some cars have cool designed plates that weren't showing on the website. Or I only able to get those plate designs which were limited by the DMV? If I do want to have a different background design or symbols, do I pay more money?

Re: Customized License Plate!!!

If you are in CA, then you can look up avail combinations and order them online. It takes anywhere from 8-12 weeks to get them and you do not have to specify the car that it will be on. When you receive them, make an appointment with the DMV and take the car down that you want to switch plates with. Walk in, give them your old plates....give them the paperwork for the new plates pay $10 and get your new tags for the new plates. Go outside and put the new plates on - voila, done!

California Special Interest License Plates

Re: Customized License Plate!!!

Curious girl, Not sure which state you're in. I am in CA and went to the DMV site on-line to ordere mine. It was very easy, when I made my selection it told me if my choice was available or not and displayed the plate on the screen, once I had found one.

Re: Customized License Plate!!!

The 'Memorial' plate looks cool as well as the 'Whale Tail'. Does anyone know what the bottome line says on the 'Whale Tail' plate? ... something Coast & Ocean. I'm also in the process of getting one.

Re: Thanks for all of you..

dang 30 min wait is heaven, try 2-3 hrs at the Van Nuys DMV. I'm about to pick my plates this week, it took 3 months from the day I ordered them on line.
If I were you I would jump on it and order be fore what you want is taken. I wanted "DSCREET" it was there, waited and then i was gone =( so after thinking for a while I came up with "DSKREET" =P

Re: Thanks for all of you..

I believe you can make an appointment with the DMV, and then go at your appointed time and wait in a different, shorter line. Call them and ask.

But then.....

I should change my address also;moreover, I want to get a new driver's license card (maybe duplicated one) so perhaps I want to go and do three things at a same time......haha....
The thing is my current driver's license magnetic got damaged, already few times of moving and has the red line that shows 21 yrs in 20xx. you know that is silly. whenever I need ID to show, I always give new address, they take time to swipe it,,,,,plus they make fun of me....like .....you still have a red line .but I'm not minor age anymore....,,

All at once, it's always good.......

Cal DMV appointments

I got my personalized plates (R8ED G) about a month ago. I ordered it online at www.dmv.ca.gov and then I made 4 appointments to pick up the plates about a week apart starting about 5 weeks after I ordered. I ended up cancelling the first 2 appointments when I didn't get the notice to pick up the plates. My next appointment was for 2 days after I got the notice. Make sure you remember to bring a screwdriver to take off your old plates when you arrive and to install the new ones before driving off. I only had to wait about 5-10 minutes because I had the appointment!

Re: Cal DMV appointments

Oh, yeah,,, I should bring the thing that I can take off the old license plate.....Since I drove my car for 5 months...yeah,,,
I can't just simply take it off at home and hand in, huh..
I might get a ticket if I don't place that on...
Thanks so much... to mention that ...
