Car swept in flood
Yep!! Sorry to say, but the car was engulfed in a flood on H-1 freeway near Fort Shafter. We were coming home from a Xmas party at Hawaii Loa Ridge. Took the H-1 westbound and low and behold, traffic was at a stand still in both directions. I could not tell that the freeway was flooded and followed the car in front of me to take the nearest exit. Well, that was a mistake and stalled out. The intake took the brunt of the flood, sucking up water. Gf freaked out, she was the first one outside of the car and began pushing the car while it flooded the interior. We got my car out first before anyone else did. On the way out, I promised to help everyone else out who was stranded, about 10 other cars. As I got my car out, I ran back to help 4 other people with their cars. Im glad that I had the chance to help everyone else out with their cars and totally forgetting about my car.
Now, that its home, we looked at the water that we brought home, dumped it out, cleaned it up, and currently air drying it out. Although, it wont ever be the same, its sad to see that the City and County of Honolulu hasnt done anything to compensate for everyones losses this past Sunday. I regret to say, they should have done something about this. It takes a few guinea pigs to actually wake up these city officials. I feel just as bad as the owner of the Mercedes Benz Compressor that was left stranded, with water up to its windows.
To everyone that stopped to help out, Thank you for your help! Im sure everyone was happy and Thankful for your thoughtfulness. Aloha

Now that's what I miss the most about home on the A'ina, the aloha everyone has even in times of stress. Everybody in Hawai'i stay o'hana whether you stay related or not. I almost jumped on stand-by for the holidays but gotta stay on the mainland til summer time. My cousin stay getting married in july. Figured I'd save up and stay for a month instead.

P.S.
For those who care. I drive a Silver Sedan 6MT CA license plate "KRZ HAYN" = "Krazy Hawaiian". A "Shaka" is always welcome.

Wow, I never thought it would happen to 1 of us, here in Hawaii. Sorry to hear about such a nice car, intake, nice polish on the car. Hope everything works out. Won't insurance cover some expenses. Let me know if you need help (if I can be of any help).

Re: Car swept in flood
Well, with this surgery and flooded car, Im not sure which is more important. Right now, the car isnt fazing me at all. I'd like to get this sling off my left arm soon. I just had my surgery on my left shoulder on Monday, so its putting me out for a while. Just cruising it at home and worrying about the car later. I dont wanna wait too long for the car.
So far, the car doesnt start. I got my electrical back...the car is drying out for most, no dirt just water accumulated in the floor and underneath the padding. Im thinking it could be the starter which is why it doesnt want to start. No water in the engine casing so thats a sigh of relief. Although, I did trace water droplets in the intake tube, but not much. Just light traces of drips.
Anyways, thank you all for your sincerity and concern. We are doing fine, just a little down and out. Im sure I will pull through this...its just a matter of time.

Re: Car swept in flood
Drew,
Try to use either this thing called "Smells Be Gone" or this other one,...its not Fabreeze though, I have to look for it. But it helps to neutralize the smell. It works really good. Trust me,..I have a dog. It you take a stiff brush, not the brass ones though, and "brush" the carpet a little, it will help to air it out. Use an old hair brush if you have one. The seats, try to use the Lexol leather cleaner. How much water got in? Higher than the seats?

Re: Car swept in flood
You should take the car to a really good professional detailer. Check the posts in the detail/eye candy forum. There is a recent one about a guy leaving his sun roof open in the rain.
A really good detailer can make your problems related to this incident disappear.
Sorry those bozo city officials are to busy banging interns and squardering tax dollars to fix your roads.

Re: Car swept in flood
dont forget, that water over there probably is salt water....so that might be a small cause of it stinking so much. You gonna run it by the ins. or you just gonna claim with the state?
my friends GTI got flooded and a tree hit it a while back....ins claimed it as totalled. Hope the g isnt that bad.
