CA tag, title, registration fees

Just curious, since this is my first car purchase on my own....what fees should I expect besides car price and tax. Also how much are the fees on the G35c and how long do you have to pay them.
Thanks

Reg. fee you pay every year that you decide to reg your car. Hey you might buy one to race;> Tax,Title & dock are paid once.

Sorry, can't really help you out there. I didn't have to pay the sales tax or part of the licensing fees when I bought my <font color=blue>G</font color=blue>.

rajc007...in the state of California...your best bet would be to get your checkbook out and bend over...

Re: CA tag, title, registration fees

If you lease, you only pay sales tax on the difference between the cap cost and the residual value. Of course, there are plenty of other fees to counter that one.

You'll pay tax, title, and license fees. Your dealer may have a documentation fee. The best way to find out exactly how much they'll be is to call up the dealership and ask. You might do better talking to the Finance Manager instead of going through a salesperson to have these questions answered. The license fees in CA are expensive for the first few years of a new car, as the CA state license is based upon the car's market value. If I'm not mistaken, a car in this price range has about a $400-500 license fee. I'll see if I can remember to lookup what I paid when I get off work.

Ok, so about $3000 tax, $400-$500 license fee, <$100 doc fee, and title fee??.

Another question, if I trade in a car worth $10k, do I still pay the tax for that $10k on the price of the new car?

If you trade in a car, whatever the dealer gives you for it is deducted from the price of the new car before figuring tax.

If you're up for selling the car yourself, you can usually get more for it than the dealer will give you, more than enough to cover the extra tax. The real question is whether or not it's enough to cover your time and hassle for selling it yourself.

Well if your a native american and you live on your reservation. You don't have to pay sales tax if the car is delivered to the rez. And <font color=blue>some</font color=blue> of the fees to register at the DMV are withdrawn. I think to register the car next year will cost about $100.00. That is because I got personalized plates.

I paid $291 in registration fees. I paid $484 in sales tax, not sure exactly how they come up with that number, it's a lease -- you only pay sales tax on a portion of the price.

Well, it is good to know that the government sometimes gives a little back. I am glad, my friend Tom lives on a Res. in Kansas and he gets some really nice paybacks, though really they don't make up for all that took place. I am being a downer sorry.
