new tires very soon...

So, the Bridgestone Turanza EL42's are down to the wear bars. Last week was evident of how they've degraded.. they've gotten very slippery and lost some of their progressive nature.

Replacement time is here. Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 in 225/55R17. From TireRack. "YOUR ORDER HAS BEEN RELEASED TO THE WAREHOUSE FOR SHIPPING." FedEx 3-day Shipping.

I'm using Preston's Tire & Wheel in La Mesa, CA. I've heard only good things about them. I'll let ya'll know how my experience goes.

Re: new tires very soon...

if you dont mind my asking how much did they set you back? Also, any particular reason you didn't chose some of the other similar tires? (S03's, NT555's, BFG G-force T/A). Any ideas on the treadlife? Oh and congrats they supposed to be a top 5 tire.

Re: new tires very soon...

$169 each from TireRack.

It was a toss-up between those and the S-03's, which are currently $4/tire more expensive and weigh a bit more. More of a tie-breaker reason than a real reason to pick one over the other. I'll probably try the S-03's out next time.

Those are the only 2 max performance summer tires I can find that work with the stock rims (17x7) and don't go too far off the stock tire diameter.

I'm not sure what kind of treadlife to expect. The treadwear rating is 280, but you can't really compare across different brands. (The EL42's are 260, and the S-03's are 220.) The EL42's only lasted me about 11k miles -- but I autocross regularly, so I'm hard on them. It would be nice to get the same mileage out of these, but I wouldn't be surprised if I get less.

You're going to have to let us know how these new shoes affect your auto-x times.

On a related note: I was down at Qualcomm yesterday and they had what looked like a Porsche Club racing event going on. I watched for about 10 minutes. Entertaining... couple of good spinouts on corners.

Yeah.. there's a Porsche, Miata, Corvette, and BMW club, at least, in addition to the Solo2 crowd. One weekend we had all 3 lots covered.. Solo2, BMW, and Porsche all at it at the same time.

I'm interested to see how it affects my times, too... next event is May 2.

Re: new tires very soon...

FedEx 3-day Saver Shipping came through in 2 days. The tires are on the car. They look pretty darn good. So far I've only had a chance to drive home on the freeway in traffic... but I did manage one freeway exchange ramp at a speed that would make the old Turanza's squeel like a pig.. and it felt like it was on rails with plenty of room to spare. I think I'm going to have to make a special trip out tonight to fill the gas tank or something!

I will bew getting these tires soon: BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 TIRES . Very good grip and cheap price. But the thing is they dont come in 45 series. Is it okay to put 40 series on the coupe.

No clue. I have a sedan. Try asking in the Tire/Wheel forum, you should get a better response to that question there.
