5/8/04 Sat Palomar/Julian Drive (San Diego)

Hey All, I’ve been missing my San Diego mountain twisties! I'll be heading up there on Saturday May 8th and will lead a group through this fun drive. This is definitely a meet for those that like to drive the twisties and get a lot of beautiful scenery in, mountain high views, woods, etc.

We'll meet at the Gas Station on 76 right next to the Pala Casino at 11154 Highway 76 which is east of the 15 about 5 miles. If using Mapquest or your onboard PC, put PALA as the city rather then San Diego. Meet around 9AM 5/8/04 Saturday, we will leave at 9:30AM sharp to head up the mountain.

We will head East on 76, then take S6 (S Grade Road) to Mother’s Kitchen/Palomar Mountain General Store for a quick break, from there some excellent twisties as we wind our way on S7 (E Grade Road) back to 76. Then quickly hopping off 76 to Center Loop/Mesa Grande (this road defines what a curve is) which drops us out on 79 and on to our final destination in Santa Ysabel (Julian Apple Pie Company, Dudleys Bakery) where we will have some lunch at the restaurant there and buy a few Apple pies to take home if you like. After lunch, we will reverse our course and head back. Just as much fun taking the drive in the opposite direction!

The drive ends once back at Hwy 76 and 15. If we start at 9:30AM, will probably finish around 1 or 1:30PM.

The Z group is planning a cruise to Julian through Palomar Mountain. I know the Palomar Mtn. drive is very fun. I've been on it once. It was great. I want to know if any of you are interested in going with the Z boys. We gotta represent the G [img]/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/img].

Sounds like fun... I'll be out of town that weekend :-(

Just an FYI from my experience, if you continue south out of Julian and take a right to go to Lake Cuyamaca (sorry, don't remember the highway number) and continue south all the way to I8 you will encounter a GREAT road to drive your G. That is if you don't get caught behind a granny...

Just a suggestion for a future road trip.
