Dealer Greed in So. Cal
Dealer Greed in So. Cal
Hi All,
Greets from a Noob on the forum.
Currently I have a 350Z Touring on order, but because of the better Infiniti Service, better interior, wife likes car better, cheaper insurance etc. I am now seriously leaning towards getting a G35C instead. But I have a big problem....
I have been to a few dealers in So. Cal. to see the car and they have all marked up the vehicle from MSRP. The worst being Cerritos....I was there last night and they had a Diamond Mist (?) on the show room floor that have $12,000 of "dealer add-ons" some of which are as follow:
$10,000 19" Wheels & Tires
$ 500 Interior protection
$ 500 Exterior protection
$ 1000 Upgraded Alarms
I busted a left nut laughing when I saw the "mark-ups". The salesman was embarassed, I gave him my card and told him to call me when they decided to get their heads out of the "nether regions of his behind" and walked out.
That said....does anyone have a name of Salesman & dealer in So. Cal that they have had a good dealing with to refer me to? Thanks a bunch.

Re: Dealer Greed in So. Cal
I've ordered mine from Matt at Infiniti of Thousand Oaks. MSRP straight up, no add-ons or other silliness. Others have reported the same from them. Cutter Motors in Santa Barbara and Team Infiniti in Ventura were also asking MSRP when I talked to them, but that was a month or so ago.
In general, you're probably better off looking for dealers outside L.A. Most of the ones in the city are gouging the hell out of their customers.

Re: Dealer Greed in So. Cal
Most of those markups are a big bluff. They had similar markups at Peyton Cramer in Torrance where I bought mine, but they backed down fast when I threatened to walk. So I got my coupe for MSRP plus $700 for Lojack. No other charges. Salesman was great (Karl). Good luck to you!
Re: Dealer Greed in So. Cal
Is that Karl Selzer? I was at the dealership over the weekend, and Karl was pretty nice. Their sticker shows about $3k over MSRP. I will have to check with Payton Kramer again. (Bought my Acura from Peyton Kramer Acura a couple of years ago).
Thanks for the input all!

Yep. Same Karl. My car had the $3,000 markup. But they dropped it all. Maybe they were just in a good mood that night. Karl even helped me take my old car home and bought me dinner!
Re: Dealer Greed in So. Cal
I went to Discover Infiniti in Escondido on Sat. I talked with one of the sales men, (I forgot his name) but he gave me a card. He said that they are selling for MSRP only. I will be ordering my car on the first of Dec, since he said that would be the best time for when I want delivery.

I bought my G35 Sedan from Discover Infiniti - Kearny Mesa (San Diego). My salesman was Victor Cutroni. Vic is pleasant to deal with; he is always courteous and returns calls promptly.
I went in to buy on Dec 9th, and told him what options I wanted (Desert Platinum/Graphite, Premium, Sport, Aero, Nav, Winter). They had one matching but not yet on the lot, on a boat headed for the port, that should have arrived in about 10 days. They whacked about $740 off the sticker without me even asking. I'm not much at haggling, so I didn't try to drop it further.
On the 20th (11 days) I was informed that the car was on the ground at the port, and waiting to be trucked down, and that they had no control over when my particular car would be loaded onto a truck. It arrived on the 26th, and I picked it up on the 27th. They were very courteous and apologetic. I took it in on the 3rd to have the LoJack installed, and got to drive an I35 for the day. When I went back to pick up my car, I was informed that my first oil change will be on the house to make up for the delay in receiving my car. I am looking forward to this kind of continued service from them.
Also, if you are looking for a coupe, you may have to pay MSRP. They have a pretty good inventory of sedans sitting on the lot now, so they're more willing to deal. I rarely saw a coupe sitting on the lot; they seem to sell almost before being unloaded from the trucks. This type of greed isn't limited to SoCal or Infiniti; it's just supply and demand.

Joe MacPherson in Tustin sold me a G35 sedan for $1200 over Invoice. About $2000 under MSRP.
Ask Michael Soler for a no-haggle price. Most things were already decided through email. No last minute changes. I do have to wait for my car about 8 weeks.. but first steps were very easy.

Re: Dealer Greed in So. Cal
I had the exact same experience with Cerritos.
They have quite a scam going on there.
They take the 18" wheels off the cars and replace them with 19" and raise the price $9k. Then they take the old 18" wheels, chrome them and put them on the 17" cars and add $3500 etc... I went back 3 times trying to buy a car. The last time I went back, the salesman admitted that they were getting a lot of grief from the customers and a lot of pressure from above to move the cars anyway. The best they would do was 1/2 off the wheels and disregard the rest. While we were writing it up, the car was suddenly already sold. I've never heard back from them.
I finally found what I wanted at Costa Mesa Infinti.
They were at least honest with me. They told me in advance that the cars were hot sellers, and there would be some aftermarket items included. (lo-jack, window tint and black chrome)
I decided I could live with these and drove away with a new coupe that night.
I guess that the longer you wait, the more power you'll have to negotiate.

I also went to Macpherson Infiniti and talked to Chuck Harris(Thanks to hoshtaylor). He's got my Blue 6MT Premium, Nav, Aero, Sport on order and it will be here in a couple of weeks. It was one of the alotted cars and was everything I wanted. We've already got a price locked and when it gets here, I'll be driven home in it with a big smile on my face. They've also got a Laser red 6MT, an Ivory Pearl 6MT, and 2 Caribbean Blue 5AT's coming in in the next couple of weeks if anyone is interested. None of thos 4 cars was purchased as of yet when I talked to Chuck on Sat. 11.

Re: Dealer Greed in So. Cal
Had great experience with Discover Infinity in Escondido for our G35 Coupe. Larry Chesney was the salesman, and he delivered the car right into my garage with a red bow on the windshield, where I surprised my wife with it for XAMAS. They are getting MSRP for the coupes and didn't play any games. They had a few Coupes on the lot the last I looked, so it might be worth the trip.

I bought my G35 Coupe 6MT two days ago from the Infiniti of Mission Viejo and I have to say, after the experience, I now hold one salesperson in high esteem. My sales rep’s name was James E. Camilleri and not only did I get my car MSRP, this dealership promises FREE CAR WASHES for the life of the car. So I can just pull into the dealership whenever I want (no limit) for a car wash.
My boyfriend and I co-purchased the car and were able to get the APR down to 4.99% due to our good credit. Plus, when we were deciding on either placing a spoiler on the car or tinting the windows, the manager Mike (who also owns a G35 Coupe) gave us his honest opinion that he would rather prefer the tint to the spoiler. The spoiler would have cost more by $250.
Not only did this dealership give me the car MSRP, minus all the inflated crap, they went out of the way to make sure I knew how to drive the car home. I had always wanted a manual car, and didn’t have anyone to teach it to me. I talked to James and made a deal that he would teach me how to drive it. By the time, the dealership was already closing and I had already purchased the car. James stayed with me and my boyfriend an hour and a half afterwards teaching us to make sure we would get home okay. By the time I was leaving for home, it was close to 11:00PM. James was as courteous as a man can get and understanding throughout the entire buying experience. He even called me back the next day to make sure I got home all right.
