You'll need to specify coupe or sedan, although I really hope you'll say sedan

Thank you,

If it's a sedan, here's the deal: The diameter is off by 0.8 inches (which is a problem), the sidewall is a half inch different, the circumference is different and you are more than 3% off on the revs/mile--not something that's recommended. Use this tire calculator to see the impact of changing tire sizes.

they don't sound very safe. 215 is pretty skinny and not enough surface contact for a sedan or coupe. Well I actually don't know what the stock tire size is for a Sedan so you all know better then I do.

If that is the stock size you should definately get something wider. My camery has 215's on them and I can't even keep that weak 4 cylinder on the ground.

I had RSAs up here in Canada. They suck in the snow as well. Don't expect them to be significantly better than what you have now. The only A/S tire I've driven that is very good in the snow are the Pilot Sport A/S.

Re: 215 50 17 will it work??

As a size, that's probably okay. The RSA's do come in 215/55R17, though. A 225/50R17 would be a closer size match on the diameter, and a 235/50R17 is a dead ringer, if you're interested.

However, your problem seems to be snow. You may want to consider a dedicated winter wheel & tire package to handle that one. I don't have personal experience with it, but everyone that's posted about winter tires says it's a night & day difference in traction. And it's not as expensive in the long term as it looks at first, since you're only using each seat of tires for part of the year.

my stock 215/55 GSD with 6500 miles on them and i can not get the tires to even chirp from a standstill. even when power breaking at 2000rpm with vdc off. they also handle very well and will only squeel on very sharp/fast turns. the GSD is a summer tire, im sure you are not useing summers on your toyota.

that's weird. Honestly it's not even me that can't keep the camery down, it's my wife. RIght now it has Kumho ecstas on them. I hear her chirp them even when she takes off lightly. it's just a stock 2001 LE that she beats to death.

Actually, if you are talking snow tires, you don't want anything wider because the wider you go, the harder it is to plow through any snow. Narrower tire and higher sidewall (the better to get through the inches of snow) are better for snow traction. I just got a winter tire/wheel package--switching to 16" wheels with Michelin Artic Alpins 215 60 16. They are lined up in my garage ready to put on whenever the snow comes.
