need help! dealer messed up my wheels with tire shine crap!

hey guys,

been enjoying my car alot...the more i drive it, the more i love it. however, whenever i look at my wheels now, there is pain in me

here is what happend (at least i THINK it is what happened). i bought my car last weekend and everything seemed fine until the dealership was cleaning up my car for me while i signed my papers. when i came out, i saw they have put on the stuff that shines tires. u guys know what im talking about? however, i also realized that it made the wheels all greesy and stuff. however, i didnt think too much of it (since i was too excited and also too tired after the whole car buying process). everything looked great while i inspected the car b4 driving off. however, the next day, i realized that my wheels have these dark stain like marks. i tried to wash it off with soup and water, but it woudlnt work. its looks like they are stained into the wheels and it just looks terrible.

i took my car in to the dealership (BMW of fairfax) where i bought it from to get my clear-bra and lo-jack installed. they have also promised me a detailing work since they didnt really do that when i first bought it (altho the car is almost new with no scratch or ding or anything). i told the sales manager about my wheels and he said he will try his best to see what he can do.

i dont know exactly if it was caused by the tire shine stuff.. but it felt very oily on my wheels so i think that prob is it.

my question here is anyone had the same problem? what can i do? im hoping that the dealership will be able to do somethign about it. i also told them not to use anything accidic cuz i read it here that our wheels are very sensitive with that kinda stuff.
do u guys think an infiniti dealership will know what to do with it? i dont no what kinda stuff they put on wheels(or tires) to make it shiney, but it certainly didnt work!

can i use some wheel wax or some kinda cleaning product to fix it? really need some help and suggestions!

thanks guys

you serious?

well, overall i had a good buying experience from the dealer and they have been very friendly and helpful. however, i guess i'll have to see what they come up with after the detailing work. if it wasnt fixed, then i guess i'll have to discuss with the manager and see what we can do!

i hope there is something that can fix it!

i have just done some search in the care&detailing section and found a couple threads with the same problems. seems liek ALOT of people had the same thing that im going through .

however, i really dont know what to do now. it seems like its not possible to get teh stain off..so either i get new wheels or somehow refinish/polish them?

i'll have to see what the service manager has done when i pick up my car. if its not fixed, then i'll have to see what i can work out with them to get it fixed! i just got the car for like 4 days

19" .. i have 05 6 speed.

i bought my car from BMW ...not from an infiniti. its a used car altho only 5700 miles on it.

i love the car and everything is fine. i think its just when they clean the wheels, thats how they Fxxxed it up. i'll see what they can do when i pick up my car..if not fix, then they better FIX it somehow. i might be looking for a wheel shop and have them pay for it.

we'll c how it goes. i'll keep you guys posted!

I have had the same black stain problem with my rims and I will say that I ended up paying $800 to re-finish the dam things. I had my car washed at the infiniti dealer by someone who didn't know what they were doing and all four of my brand new 19" OEM infiniti coupe wheels started getting stained with black crap. The dealer would not cover it because your actually not suppose to clean the rims with any acid or strong chemicals products. I only had the car for 4 day so I ended up getting the wheels re-finished for $800. I will say that they will not be restored perfectly to the gun metal but they sure look pretty darn good. To anyone here with the same rims, it is best to hand wash then with regular soap and water.

^^refinishing service at the expense of the dealer might be your best option if claybar does nothing. Some kinds of tire shine causes damage to surface areas--worst effects can sometimes be seen on the body of the car itself--I believe the Infiniti service manual even says something about not being liable for surface damage resulting from tire shine slicked onto the car...

After you are satisfied w/ the wheels I would recommend using some wheelwax--It'll clean your wheels, and also puts a layer of protectant on that makes cleaning easier and helps repel contaminants. www.wheelwax.com

lesson number 1: never let the dealer do any type of cleaning on your car and if you do make sure you do a full inspection of the car before you leave

It's not your problem. Make the Dealer clean it up if possible, and if not, you have the option of demanding new wheels or voiding the sale.
